President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday downgraded earlier estimates of possibly 10,000 deaths due to Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan) to 2,000 or 2,500.

Aquino, in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, said the 10,000 figure is “too much” and probably made by provincial officials who were “too close” to all the devastation to make an objective estimate.

In the interview, Aquino said government agencies still need to reach 29 municipalities more to make an account of their casualties.

“So far 2,000 to 2,500 is the number we are working on as far as deaths are concerned,” Aquino told Amanpour.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRMMC) as of 10:00 p.m of Nov. 12, 2013 placed the number of confirmed deaths to 1,798 individuals, 2,582 injured and 82 missing. At least 1.3 million families or 6.9 million people were affected by the killer howler that was considered the strongest typhoon to ever make a landfall in history.

Aquino also admitted during the interview that much of the provincial government was paralyzed as members attend to their own families’ safety. He told CNN that the national government had to step in the aftermath of ‘Yolanda’ to continue the delivery of vital government services, especially during a calamity.

Kapuso star Richard Gutierrez chooses not to mind issues concerning his “off-shore” girlfriend, actress Sarah Lahbati, but guarantees her return to Manila.

“I’m guaranteeing that Sarah will come back soon. She will answer all these questions personally,” the actor told entertainment writers on Thursday. He just arrived from visiting Sarah in Switzerland, where she had flown apparently to evade lawsuits filed by GMA 7.

Late last May, the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office said it was supporting the libel case filed against Sarah in January by GMA 7 executive Annette Gozon-Abrogar. The Kapuso network also filed a P7-million civil suit for “specific performance with damages.”

Richard reported that her controversial sweetheart was “doing well,” but refused to discuss the rumor circulating on Twitter that he had gotten the 19-year-old pregnant and that she had given birth.

During Thursday’s media gathering for his latest movie “My Lady Boss,” Richard announced he was “taking a few months off.”

Expired contract

He said his contract with GMA 7 expired last month, and that he needed only to finish promoting the movie.
“I’ve been with the network for 11 years. It’s going to be a long break,” he said. “I’m not closing my doors on anything; in fact, I see this as the perfect opportunity to assess my situation. I’ve done everything with GMA 7—movies, drama shows, documentaries, reality programs, game shows. I’ve had a full career with the network.”

Cut short

The former “Captain Barbel” lead star said he had cut short his Switzerland trip to help promote “My Lady Boss,” whose screening was moved to July 3.
“It’s my responsibility as an actor,” he pointed out, “my obligation to coactors, the director and producers.”

Richard was hopeful that viewers would appreciate the Jade Castro-directed film, his first teamup in a long while with Marian Rivera. They were costars in the 2008 romantic comedy, “My Best Friend’s Girlfriend.”

Different view

Richard said his only hope for this new movie was that it would entertain the tandem’s supporters. “If we achieve this, I’ll be very proud, whether or not it does well in the box office.”

“My Lady Boss” also features Tom Rodriguez, Rocco Nacino, Sef Cadayona, Ronaldo Valdez and Maricel Laxa.
MANILA, Philippines - A hacker has posted online what he claimed were President Aquino’s personal mobile phone numbers.

Presidential Commu-nications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ricky Carandang would not confirm if the numbers were really the President’s, or if their release on the Internet had compromised the Chief Executive’s personal security or state secrets.

“It’s cyber vandalism plain and simple,” Carandang said. “We are dealing with it. That’s all I can say for now.”

The three mobile numbers were posted late Friday on the Facebook site of a certain #pR.is0n3r. The post received more than a hundred shares within 12 hours after it was posted.

One of the numbers had the reference “25 Times St. Quezon City,” the President’s home address. The other two included “S 510 House of Representatives Batasan Complex,” Aquino’s office address when he was still a member of the House of Representatives as Tarlac’s second district representative.

Malacañang has yet to confirm if the numbers were indeed owned by the President.

Talk to the President
The owner of the Facebook account urged friends and followers, who number more than 9,000 as of yesterday, to communicate directly with the President.

“We want to (contact him directly) and tell him the things that we want to happen. (We want to tell him) the sentiments of the Filipino people,” the account owner wrote in Filipino.

The Facebook post was linked to a Twitter micro-blog site with the same user name.

In a message sent to The STAR, #pR.is0n3r, who agreed to be referred to as a “he,” said this is not the right time to disclose the source of the numbers. But he said he was “100 percent” sure that they were the President’s.

He said Aquino has a lot of personal numbers, but three of these are enough for the people to reach him.

The author claimed he belongs to the hacker group “Anonymous Philippines.” The group is believed to be behind the hacking of various local and international websites during the height of issues such as the Panatag Shoal dispute with China, the Sabah incident, and the passage of the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

While declining to name his source, #pR.is0n3r cited his previous posts showing that there are government officials supporting their cause.

“Ordinary people aren’t just the ones who don’t like what is happening now,” the hacker said.

“The President is very silent when it comes to national issues. We want to hear him,” added #pR.is0n3r.

More numbers

Aside from Aquino, #pR.is0n3r said he has the personal numbers of other people, but did not release them, citing that of presidential sister Kris Aquino, because their focus involves national issues.

He said he has no plans to release the other numbers.

When asked if he received a reply from the supposed numbers of the President, the hacker told The STAR he only received a message containing three question marks.

“That’s just his reply,” he said, noting that it will be up to the President if he will listen to the voice of the people.

He said that while they can give the people direct access to the President, they don’t have the capability to make the President listen to the sentiments of the public.

He reminded those who saw the numbers to use the information correctly, saying that what they are doing is not a joke.

#pR.is0n3r admitted that releasing Aquino’s phone numbers was wrong but said it was the only way to get directly in touch with the highest official in the country.

“It’s hard to talk to someone if you have to go through a lot of things. It’s hard to write to someone when you are not sure if your message will be received,” the account owner said.

#pR.is0n3r added that they would continue to use technology to serve as the voice of the people.

Several people who commented on the Facebook post noted that the numbers were unavailable when they tried to call them.

In a reply, #pR.is0n3r said all three numbers were ringing as of 7 p.m. Friday. The user said he was able to send 30 messages each to the three numbers before releasing them.

Last week, the entire University of the Philippines system entered into a partnership that put them at par with some of the best universities all over the world -- from Georgetown University in the United States, to the University of Westminster in Britain, to Monash University in Australia.

At an event dubbed “Going UP with Google”, the country’s premier state university announced its adoption of Google Apps for Education throughout the UP system of campuses nationwide. Google Apps for Education is a suite of free online productivity and collaboration tools that the Internet giant offers to various academic institutions all over the world.

With the partnership, more than 70,000 students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University of the Philippines are expected to enjoy 30GB of inbox space, greater file sharing capacity, as well as a supportive environment for online collaboration. The applications that the University of the Philippines is expected to enjoy include GMail, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Drive, and Google sites, all of which will be personalized for the university.

“We welcome the chance to utilize new and engaging ways to work in the offices and the classrooms of the university,” remarked Dr. Elvira A. Zamora, vice president for development of the UP System. “These tools encourage sharing and group work online. It will open up more avenues for sharing among campuses. We can use this to generate solution to persistent problems we are all aware of.”

The project is part of UP’s eUP program, which seeks to integrate, harmonize, and interoperate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems and infrastructure across all universities of the UP System.

NOT ALONE

UP isn’t alone in this endeavor either. The Commission of Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd) have already adopted the system last year, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) adopted it earlier this year, effectively making the entire education department of the Philippines users of the Google suite of apps.

Also adopting Google Apps for Education alongside UP were Adamson University, Asian Institute of Maritime Studies, Ateneo de Zamboanga, Berkeley School, Eastern Visayas State University, Educational Systems Technological Institute, Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology, Immaculate Conception Academy, La Salle University-Ozamiz, Miriam College, Rizal Technological University, Siliman University, St. Paul University, St. Scholastica’s College, and University of San Juan Recoletos.

Other universities that have already adopted Google Apps for Education, or are in the process of adopting it, include AMA Computer University, Angeles University Foundation, Assumption College, Ateneo de Manila University, Baguio Patriotic School, Bicol University, Cebu Institute of Technology University, Centro Escolar University, Colegio De San Juan De Letran, De La Salle Santiago Zobel, Lyceum of the Philippines, Mapua Institute of Technology, Mindanao University of Science and Technology, Misamis University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Philippine Christian University, Philippine Women’s University, San Sebastian College-Recoletos, St. Joseph’s College, St. Jude College, STI, Technological Institute of the Philippines, University of Baguio, Universidad de Zamboanga, University of Perpetual Health System Dalta, University of the East, University of Santo Tomas ICS Department, and St. Louis University.

SCRATCHING THE SURFACE

During the launch, Sandra Lovenia of the Ateneo de Manila University’s (ADMU) Department of Information Systems and Computer Science recalled the experience that ADMU had when it adopted Google Apps for Education.

“We actually had two phases of using Google. We gave Ateneo email addresses for our students, and it was a cost-effective service. Students found it cool. When we started the use of Google for our employees in March, we already got very good feedback from our employees. In our old email system, we had very limited space. The large email space of GMail makes it more productive when they use their email,” she shared over a Google Hangout arranged by the UDante Gideon Vergara, director of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) Information Technology Center, revealed at the same Hangout that UPLB was already using Google Docs and Google Drive, and believes that the adoption of Google Apps for Education will be a boon for the UP System.

“We’ve only scratched the surface. We use Google Docs and Drive. We use it for collaborations and technical working groups, as well as references,” he says. “Hangout is an opportunity to teleconference at no cost at all. I think maraming potential ang Google Apps for collabor>
END OF REGULATION The Miami Heat are back-to-back NBA Champions. They had to earn it in one of the best NBA Finals we have seen in a long time.

END OF REGULATION MIAMI WINS 95-88.

:16.3 Fourth Quarter: Ginobili misses long three, desperate three. Wade gets rebound, fouled, hits one. 95-88 Miami.

:23.5 Fourth Quarter: LeBron hits both, 94-88 Heat.

:23.5 Fourth Quarter: Tony Parker on the bench and Manu Ginobili drove baseline and then threw a bad pass that LeBron steals. Terrible play by Manu.

:28 Fourth Quarter: If Game 6 taught us anything, it is that this game is not over.

:28 Fourth Quarter: LeBron with pull-up 18-footer gives Heat 92-88 lead.

:46 Fourth Quarter: Tim Duncan had a chance to tie, had smaller Battier on him in the block, spun to the lane and missed, then missed the tip in. Oh, what a chance. Heat lead 90-88 with the ball and a chance to really make this hard on the spurs.

1:35 Fourth Quarter: Chalmers fouled by Green on a drive (bad reach in by Green), missed both freebies. 90-88 Heat.

2:00 Fourth Quarter: Leonard has ice water in his veins, hits three. 90-88 Heat.

2:34 Fourth Quarter: Wade scores inside. Duncan misses. 90-85 Heat.

3:06 Fourth Quarter: Shane Battier with 18 points on 6-7 from three. That is an NBA Finals Game 7 record for threes. He is the role player who steps up.

3:06 Fourth Quarter: Duncan with an and-1 that is Bosh’s fifth foul. 88-85 Heat.

3:17 Fourth Quarter: Shane Battier with a corner three on a LeBron kickout.Heat by 6.

4:09 Fourth Quarter: Ginobili three made it 85-82 and Green had a chance to tie on a Heat turnover.

4:58 Fourth Quarter: Chris Bosh 0-5 for the game, but he has played good defense on Duncan. Thing is, Duncan still scores because he is a machine with 12 counter moves in the post. 83-79 Heat.

5:37 Fourth Quarter: LeBron James with 31 points on 19 shots. Dwyane Wade has added 20 playing on two bad knees. Together 51 points on 38 shots.

5:37 Fourth Quarter: Ginobili throws the ball into the first row, fifth turnover of the quarter for the Spurs, that will kill them. LeBron bucket makes it 83-77 Heat.

6:38 Fourth Quarter: 81-77 Heat. Spurs refuse to go away, helped a lot by Ginobili with 15.

7:34 Fourth Quarter: Common foul from Spurs on key play — Spurs fouled LeBron in back court as he passed to Wade, who had a clear path for a fast break… except Wade had fallen and would not have been able to make a play. Good call by refs, Wade would not have scored on that play.

8:34 Fourth Quarter: I’m going to go through withdrawals tomorrow with this series over. It has been that good.

8:34 Fourth Quarter: Battier misses three. Battier misses three. Kawhi Leonard has 13 rebounds already. 77-75 Heat.

9:42 Fourth Quarter: Birdman takes an offensive charge, gets an offensive rebound. Miami looks quicker and like they have more energy right now. LeBron free throws make it 77-73 Heat.

10:28 Fourth Quarter: That didn’t take long, Duncan and Parker back in. 76-73 Heat

11:05 Fourth Quarter: Battier with another three, 5-5 from deep. 75-71 Heat.

11:55 Fourth Quarter: Spurs stick with their rotation, rest Parker and Duncan to start fourth, Wade and LeBron in the game.

END OF THIRD QUARTER: Both teams shot 50 percent in the third quarter. They loosened up.

END OF THIRD QUARTER: 72-71 Heat. Manu Gimobili made an impressive driving layup, the Heat had five seconds and Chalmers drove and took a long straight-away three that he banked in just before the buzzer. Wild end to the quarter. Chalmers loves his buzzer beaters in big games.

:27 Third Quarter: Shane Battier with his fourth three of the night ties it, 69-69.

1:33 Third Quarter: Ray Allen 0-4 from three tonight with three turnovers. Might be time for Heat to go away from him. 67-66 Heat.

2:18 Third Quarter: The shot clocks over the basket at one end are out, so they are turning off at both ends… wait, they fixed it. So all is right with the world. Sort of.

2:34 Third Quarter: This in some ways feels like the games the Spurs have won when they take the Heat’s best punch and keep finding ways. But will their legs hold out in the fourth is the question. If so they could win thls.

2:34 Third Quarter: Duncan layup off pass from Diaw — Spurs once again withstand a little Heat run. 65-64 Spurs.

3:33 Third Quarter: Heat don’t want LeBron driving but he hits his second three in a row. Five threes from LeBron. Kawhi Leonard answers with an impressive and-1 62-60 Heat.

4:23 Third Quarter: LeBron drains his fourth three of the game on a pick-and-pop with Ray Allen. 59-57 Heat.

5:27 Third Quarter: Wade with a nice drive across the lane floater. Green answers with his first three all game. 57-56 Spurs. Green at 27 three for series.

6:48 Third Quarter: 54-54 at a timeout after Green got trapped. Rough game for Green, he has missed all his threes.

7:50 Third Quarter: Duncan with a bucket to tied it 54-54. Also, Duncan has four steals this game.

8:02 Third Quarter: Heat take lead on that pretty LeB

8:36 Third Quarter: Spurs turnover becomes pretty LeBron to Wade dunk in transition. 54-52 Heat.

9:55 Third Quarter: LeBron had time to build a campfire, make some smores, clean his hands, then set his feet and make a three. 51-48 Heat.

11:01 Third Quarter: Both teams looking a little more steady to start the second half, 46-46 tie.
HALFTIME: This has been a slugfest of a first half, in particular compared to what was a pretty series up to then most of the time.

HALFTIME: Spurs took 26 shots in the paint in the first half, but hit just 45 percent of them. Heat, however, only 10 shots in the paint. They are knocking down jumpers now, but can they keep that up? Spurs would be willing to bet no.

HALFTIME: Heat shot 43.2 percent overall and 5-14 from three led by 15 from LeBron James and 14 from Dwyane Wade. They’d have a bigger lead but had 8 turnovers.

HALFTIME: Spurs shot 35 percent for first half, led by 13 points from Tim Duncan and 10 from Tony Parker. They are just 2-7 from three but got some good minutes from Manu Ginobili.

HALFTIME: 46-44 Heat as half ends with a Wade step back jumper.

1:25 Second Quarter: Ginobili draws questionable foul, hits both free throws, 42-40 Spurs back in lead.

1:43 Second Quarter: LeBron three, Leonard drive and foul. Next possession Duncan three. 40-40 tie.

2:53 Second Quarter: Heat have their 9th turnover of the game, this one courtesy Ray Allen. Heat have cracked 40 percent shooting barrier but turnovers helping keep Spurs close.

3:02 Second Quarter: Heat win scramble for loose ball on the floor, they seem to be winning a lot of 50/50 balls. 37-34 Heat.

4:15 Second Quarter: Spurs hanging around thanks to “look what I found” Gary Neal bank shot from three, and a couple Tim Duncan free throws. 35-32 Heat.

5:21 Second Quarter: LeBron James with a three makes it 33-27 Heat. Spurs have to hold on and not let a run happen.

6:29 Second Quarter: LeBron with a good an impressive and-1. So hard to foul him and stop his shooting motion. 30-27 Heat.

6:40 Second Quarter: Both teams shooting 36.7 percent, Heat hotter from three but turning ball over four more times. 27-27 tie.

7:46 Second Quarter: Duncan with the and-1 where he picked up the third foul on Bosh and sends him to the bench, Chris Andersen back in. 27-27 tie.

8:07 Second Quarter: Tony Parker post up? Tony Parker post up. 25-24 Heat.

9:12 Second Quarter: Heat get three offensive rebounds in once sequence, leads to a Chalmers drive and layup. 23-20 Heat.

9:55 Second Quarter: The in-arena music in Miami is like being in a dance club. In San Antonio it’s like 1988 Metal Fest.

9:55 Second Quarter: Shane Battier is shooting like he’s back at Cameron Indoor Arena, but the 7th Heat turnover leads the Spurs back. 21-20 Heat.

11:12 Second Quarter: Another Battier three. 21-16 Heat.

END OF FIRST QUARTER: Shane Battier with 6 points, he could be the role player star you know would come out of somewhere this quarter. Tim Duncan was really solid for the Spurs but not anyone else.

END OF FIRST QUARTER: 18-16 Heat after 1. Not a very pretty first quarter. Heat shooting 36.8 percent, Spurs 31.8 percent.

:33 First Quarter: Another Shane Battier open three and Heat have their first lead, 18-15.

:50 First Quarter: Spurs have Duncan and Parker sitting, this is a key stretch for the Heat. Battier three and Birdman putback next possession 15-15

1:02 First Quarter: Drake is in the house, they showed him on the scoreboard. He has a Heat championship ring from last year… no, I have no idea why.

2:12 First Quarter: Spurs start out shooting 35% with 3 early turnovers, Heat 30.8% and they have 4 turnovers. Guys are tight. Not a surprise, especially if you remember the wrestling match that was Lakers/Celtics Game 7 in 2010.

3:03 First Quarter: Birdman with a block 15-10 Spurs.

6:18 First Quarter: The Spurs out to fast starts (or the Heat off to slow starts) has been a pattern this series. When the Spurs are on they don’t wilt under the Heat’s runs later in the game that close the gap.

6:18 First Quarter: Ginobili has to sit with his second foul. Heat shooting 2-of-8 to start and the lack of outside shots is not pulling the Spurs defense out of the paint. 11-6 Spurs

7:22 First Quarter: Hangover from last game, what hangover? 11-4 Spurs lead. They bounced back, the question is will their legs get tired in the second half.

8:01 First Quarter: Duncan starts 2-2 shooting, but Spurs with 2 turnovers. Chalmers off to a rough start. Ginobili with a three 9-2 Spurs.

9:58 First Quarter: Tim Duncan with a steal then he leads the “fast” break and dunks. 6-2 Spurs.

10:48 First Quarter: Tony Parker scores the first bucket of the game, a backdoor cut where Mike Miller lost him. LeBron jumper on the other end. 2-2.

11:25 First Quarter: LeBron starts on Ginobili, which means Chalmers on Parker.

12:00 First Quarter: Best part of the being in the arena, I don’t have to see Jessie Williams social media thing they apparently keep doing before the games (according to people complaining on my twitter timeline).

12:00 First Quarter: Dwyane Wade could be key — if he is off tonight and the Spurs defense can ignore him outside 15 feet they will pack the paint and make things hard for LeBron. If they need to be honest on him, Mike Miller, Mario Chalmers and the rest things open up for the Heat offense.

12:00 First Quarter: Heat can’t go away from Julia Dale at this point.

12:00 First Quarter: Every Game 7 has a role player rise up as a star, that is going to be fascinating. Remember in 2010 it was then Ron Artest, now Metta World Peace, who won Game 7 for the Lakers against the Celtics. Both teams were tight that day — Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce included. That was more wrestling match than basketball game and the winning team shot just over 32 percent. We’ll see who is loose tonight.

12:00 First Quarter: If you haven’t seen it, we have the video of LeBron James talking to the media before the game up live here at PBT, check it out.

12:00 First Quarter: We should note that Danny Green of the Spurs said before the game that he has come down with some kind of bug and is feeling a little off. May not impact his play, but something to watch.

MANILA – The “mystery girl” being linked to Charice after several photos of the two made the rounds online is reportedly just a friend of the young singer, according to Charice’s godfather, columnist Bum Tenorio.

In his Twitter account, Tenorio said the girl is actually the girlfriend of his nephew Nikko Tenorio.

“For the record, the ‘girl’ the tabloids link to Charice today is actually the girlfriend of my nephew,” he said, explaining that the singer and his nephew are close since Nikko is the brother of Charice's best friend Nikka who passed away in 2007.

Tenorio said Charice even gives his nephew free voice lessons, while Nikko sometimes drives for the singer.

While Charice has remained quiet in her social media accounts, Tenorio said Charice is still actively monitoring her Twitter account to keep in touch with her fans.

“Charice told me in the car that her Twitter account was hacked for a few days. Now, she's back to lurking. Lovers and bashers make her smile,” Tenorio said.

“Charice said she remains grateful to her bashers. ‘Tulog-tulog din pag may time,’ she said to those who bash her even in wee hours,” he added.

Aside from sporting a short hairdo, Tenorio said the singer also decided to get new tattoos.

“Cha has added some more ink in her body like ‘I cry because it hurts’ and ‘Let's start with forever.’ Again I wish I could spill,” the columnist teased.

While the singer's absence from local TV continues to puzzle her followers, Tenorio said Charice is currently “very happy and content with her life now.”

“She knows June will be a happier month for her in LA. Wish I could spill,” he said.

MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City Police on Tuesday echoed the statement of the Secure and Fair Elections 2013 (SAFE) task force of the Philippine National Police that there is no need to declare the city an “election hotspot” and be placed under the control of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Taguig City Police chief, Senior Supt. Arthur Asis said despite last Saturday’s violent incident involving supporters of Taguig mayoralty bet Rica Tinga and supporters of Taguig City re-electionist Mayor Lani Cayetano, there is still no need to put the city under the Comelec’s control.

“The political situation in Taguig City can still be considered as peaceful as a whole,” Asis said.

“Tahimik sa pankahalatan ang sitwasyon sa Taguig. Walang dahilan na isailalim ito sa Comelec control. Ang nangyari noong Sabado ay isang isolated case lamang," he added.

Asis added that before a certain area can be declared an election “hot spot,” certain conditions must be present such as: the presence of threat groups such as the communist New People's Army, the proliferation of private armed groups, and widespread election-related violent incidents.

“All these are not present in Taguig City that's why Taguig cannot be categorized as a hot spot,” Asis said.

Chief Supt. Miguel Antonio, SAFE task force deputy commander earlier said the reported violent incidents in Manila and Taguig were considered isolated.

However, the Comelec is considering putting Taguig City in the list of “areas of immediate concern” following the violent incident.

Tinga on Monday appealed to President Aquino to stop the alleged harassment of her supporters by the camp of Mayor Cayetano.
According to Tinga’s camp, their lawyers are now readying complaints of grave coercion, grave threats, serious physical injuries, attempted homicide and robbery against Mayor Cayetano and members of the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) led by Kim Pautin. A case of election-related violence will also be filed before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as Tinga’s camp also asks the poll body to place Taguig under its control.

On Saturday morning, 11 supporters of Taguig City mayoralty bet Rica Tiñga and an actor seeking a city council seat under her Kilusang Diwa ng Taguig (KDT) ticket were hurt after they were allegedly attacked by supporters of Cayetano.
According to a statement from Tinga’s camp, the supporters and KDT council bet and actor Ervic Vijandre, 27, were conducting a house-to-house campaign at about 9:30 a.m. along P. Cruz St. in Barangay Tuktukan near the city hall when they were allegedly harassed by some 30 members of the city hall’s Public Order and Safety Office (POSO).

According to Tinga’s camp, the POSO men, who were positioned by the side gate of the city hall attacked the group with metal batons.

Jerry Goc-ong, 40, the group’s photographer, was chased and beaten by the POSO personnel and even got his Canon digital camera snatched after he allegedly tried taking photographs.

He was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital at the Bonifacio Global City for head and body injuries, Tinga’s camp said.

Vijandre meanwhile, who is seeking a council seat for the city’s first district, sustained a deep cut on the head that later required four stitches after he was reportedly beaten-up by the suspects.

Another supporter, Crispina C. Hernandez, 56, suffered a broken nose, after a suspect with his face covered, allegedly threw a rock at her.

The other victims of the alleged attack were identified as: Guiama T. Batua, 27; Raymond D. Quimpo, 28; Christopher L. Gonzales, 37; Alexander Cary L. Gonzales, 39; Jose L. Garcia, Jr., 42; John Erick R. Asuncion, 18; Vanessa A. Santos, 18; Kawner I. Alojado, 18; and a female minor who handed out leaflets.
According to Tinga’s camp, the KDT supporters were attacked after Tinga was seen entering the grounds of the city hall with her other supporters.
Tinga said her group was attacked by the POSO personnel after she tried to enter the premises of the city hall. She said POSO head Pautin barred her and her supporters from entering the city hall grounds.

While Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador are yet to reconcile, their leading men in the series “Ina, Kapatid, Anak” – Xian Lim and Enchong Dee – also have their own issue to fix.

The two actors allegedly had a confrontation recently that stemmed from Xian supposedly rebuking Enchong’s personal assistant, who called the former’s attention over his fans visiting the “Ina, Kapatid, Anak” set.

Reports say fan visits are no longer allowed during taping so that the show’s cast and production crew could concentrate on work.

In an interview with Cinema News, Xian maintained that he’s not the type who scolds others.

“I think people should not exaggerate things,” he said, adding that neither he nor his fans have a problem with Enchong or his supporters.

The issue, he clarified, was “more of” everyone in the production.

His fans’ visit came as a surprise to him, yet he opted to entertain them since he thought it would be “impolite and inappropriate” to make them just leave.

“I guess people got offended, people got the idea that siguro... sumasaway ako sa rules and regulations… Sinabi ko rin sa production na sana ‘wag kayong magalit sa’kin kasi pinaglalaban ko lang naman 'yung mga supporters ko kasi sila pinaglalaban nila ako eh.”

The singer-actor admitted that he and Enchong had a misunderstanding – which he did not detail – though they remain on speaking terms.
“Hindi puwedeng hindi kami mag-uusap... Siyempre merong misunderstanding pero it’s not the way people think kasi open ako sa kanya eh.

I’m pretty sure he would be open din sa akin.

NO WEDDING IN DECEMBER.

Sagot ng Kapuso actor, “I'm not surprised. Parati namang may ganoon."
NONE OF HIS BUSINESS.

"Popoy is none of my business.

"All the way," sabi niya.

"No comment na ako diyan. Oks na muna yun for now," pag-iwas muli ni Dingdong.

"I am happy for her decision," tugon niya.

MANILA (UPDATE 2) - Five people including 4 foreigners were killed by falling rocks after Mayon Volcano spewed ash Tuesday morning, a National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) official said.
NDRRMC executive director Eduardo del Rosario said the 5 fatalities were among the at least 20 mountaineers who went up the volcano in three groups.

Seven hikers were injured.
Del Rosario said a chopper was already on its way to rescue trapped mountaineers. said the 5 fatalities were part of a group of climbers that included 5 foreigners and 3 Filipino tour guides. In that group, 4 foreigners of unknown nationalities and a local tour guide, identified only as "Jerome", were killed after being hit by falling rocks.

He said another group of 7 climbers took the Santo Domingo route up the volcano and were also hit by falling rocks.

He said 3 of the Mayon climbers of the Santo Domingo group were injured.
Volcano tour guide Kenneth Jesalva, who went up the Malilipot route with the first group, said they first heard a loud rumbling before they were hit by volcanic rocks.

"Paakyat kami noon sa taas, nagpapahinga kami saglit at may narinig na kaming malakas na gulong ng mga bato. Iyung iba po naming kasamahan natamaan ng bato," Jesalva told ANC.

"Tumakbo po kami sa may safe na lugar, yung bato na mag-cocover sa amin, pero di talaga kinaya," he added.
The bodies have yet to be brought down to the base camp, Jesalva said.

Phreatic explosion

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) executive director Renato Solidum explained that the spewing of ash was caused by a hydro-thermal explosion. This type of explosion is also called "phreatic".

<div 12px="" 18px="" arial="" font-size:="" helvetica="" line-height:="" sans-serif="">
Solidum explained that a hydro-thermal explosion is stream-driven, which means that the volcano has let out steam that got trapped over time.

"The steam column that was produced was grayish, but mainly it is water. There is not much pressure on it. There is no new magma yet… The steam carried with it the old ash at the crater of the volcano." Solidum told ANC.

"It is a normal process in any volcano. If you look at Mayon Volcano, it continuously moves steam, even other volcanoes in the country. But once that steam is trapped, there can be pressure and that can trigger a shallow explosion," Solidum added.

Phivolcs said the wind was forcing the ash to go west, towards Albay's 3rd district, consisting of Guinobatan, Jovellar, Libon, Oas, Polangui, and Pio Duran.

Solidum said there is no way to predict if another ash explosion will occur.

"In previous episodes of eruption of Mayon Volcano, sometimes other ash explosions would happen, but the interval would not be very regular," Solidum said.

"We don't know when that will happen. We always reiterate that people should be careful especially those in the permanent danger zone. We have sufficient instrumentation there - cameras, seismic instruments. What we need to do is to evaluate the condition of the volcano continuously."

Solidum said Phivolcs is maintaining alert level 0 for Mayon, since there is no new magmatic activity yet.

In its latest advisory, Phivolcs said a volcanic eruption is not imminent.

Governor Salceda, meanwhile, said all "human activities" within the 6-kilometer radius permanent danger zone of the volcano have been suspended.

The permanent danger zone covers some parts of Legazpi, Santo Domingo, Malilipot, Bacacay, Tabaco City, Ligao, Guinobatan, Camalig and Daraga.

Kris Aquino has apologized to Miss Universe 2012 first-runner up Janine Tugonon who received criticisms after announcing her breakup with boyfriend Jaypee Santos on "Kris TV" last April 16.

“Janine, sorry that you had to go through all that because you wanted to be honest while you were on the show and siguro ‘yun na lang, next time sa cooking portion ko, mag-iingat na ako sa mga tinatanong ko,” the actress-host said on the same show on April 23.

Kris pointed out that Janine made the revelation without being prompted.

“Tinanong ko ba kung break sila? Parang hindi ko naman tinanong ‘di ba? Siya nagsabi!” the TV host said. “Nakialam lang ako du’n sa tinola dahil sinabi ko na kulang ‘yung chicken at kulang ‘yung tubig.”

Kris admitted that she, too, was hooked on The Script’s “Breakeven” when she was brokenhearted.

“Talagang naka-repeat mode ‘yung ‘Breakeven.’ Ang ganda non,” she enthused.

The Queen of All Media defended the beauty queen, noting that some people are siding with Jaypee just because he seems to be the underdog in the hullabaloo.

“Ang painful kasi maybe ‘di ba? Ang Philippines, we love an underdog. Noong nanalo si Janine, ano bang ginawa ng Pilipinas? – sinabi na hindi deserve ni Jaypee si Janine, ‘di ba? Kasi ‘di ba ang dami nagsabi before na... hindi siya ganon ka-cute, and all,” Kris pointed out. “Noong time na ‘yon pinagtanggol (siya) ni Janine.”

She further insisted that it was not Janine’s fault that Danny O'Donoghue of The Script had asked her when they met after their Manila concert to follow him on Twitter. At the time of the meeting, Janine was with Jaypee.

“I think ha, in my opinion lang kasi kasalanan ito ni guy, The Script (referring to Danny) kasi alam naman niyang may boyfriend ‘yung tao eh,” Kris stressed.

Her guest co-host Melissa Cantiveros butted in, “---na nasilaw sa kanyang ka-gwapuhan!”

According to a report, Janine is still in France and her management had already directed her to not comment on the matter. The beauty queen also stopped posting her sentiments on Twitter. Her last tweet dated April 16 read: “Stop jumping into conclusions.. Nothing's going on!!!”

Health officials have declared a cholera outbreak in Bongo Island, Maguindanao, after recording over 60 cases with two deaths, a television report said Tuesday.

In her report aired on GMA News TV's “Balitanghali,” Saleema Refran said health officials in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) had pinpointed the source of the problem to a contaminated open well where the patients, most of them children, drank from.
According to the report, the affected residents were rushed to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) due to diarrhea and vomiting.
The report said the two fatalities were a three-year-old child and an elderly woman. The number of patients, meanwhile, has reached 67, of which 57 were children.
According to the report, health officials, during a recent visit to Tuca Maror village, found out that the residents themselves may have contaminated their own water.
"Ang sabi nila ay napakalawak po ng aming palikuran, nasa dagat. This is one sad point wherein we really have to encourage the local government to impose an ordinance prohibiting people from contaminating the ocean water of their water source," Dr. Kadil Sinolindag, DOH-ARMM secretary, said in the report.
In an earlier interview, Sinolindag said they are working on ensuring a continuous supply of potable water in Parang, where Bongo Island is located. For now, he said they plan to seal off the well to prevent contamination.
"Sa totoo lang isa pong problem ito common among islanders yung source ng continous potable water sa ngayon yung water na pinagkukunan ng tubig ay continuous naming minomotinor at meron kaming analysis na ginagawa halos every other day at continuous dun ang pagtitreat namin dito dahil wala nga pong ibang water source doon sa area," Sinolindag said.
He also said that they have coordinated with all health facilities in the area and neighboring towns to prevent the cholera from spreading.
"Pinapakiusapan ko po yung mga residente na mga asymptomatic but exposed doon sa balon na iyon na kung kayo po ay magdudumi kailangan sa kubeta lamang dahil alam natin na 'yung iba sa ating mga kababayan ay hindi pa rin gumagamit ng tamang paraan, 'yung hygienic way of human watse disposal," Sinolindag said.
Meanwhile, most of the residents in the area have temporarily left their homes due to the outbreak, according to the report.
The report said, citing DOH figures, that 81 cases of cholera had been recorded in the country in 2012.

Three members of Paniqui municipal police station in Tarlac are in hot water for beating up a man whom they tried to arrest.

The assault on the still unidentified man was caught on video and was uploaded on the Internet.
One of the policemen suddenly pushed the man until he was cornered beside a parked van.
As he tried to hold on to another police officer for balance, he was kicked on the stomach and was punched repeatedly in the stomach by the third police officer.

The three policemen were identified as Police Officers 2 Richelle Antonio, Herardo Bermudez, and Fernando Acosta.
They were trying to arrest the unidentified man who was facing a physical injuries complaint but the latter tried to evade arrest and assaulted Antonio, a report from Senior Superintendent Alfred Corpuz, Tarlac provincial police director, said.
Corpuz claimed the video did not show the entire incident.
Nonetheless, the PNP leadership has ordered the relief of the three policemen who were also being investigated by the Provincial Internal Affairs Service.
InterAksyon.com has yet to confirm the authenticity of the video.
All is well between John Prats and Melai Contiveros even amid his rift with her ex-boyfriend Jason Francisco.
"The Buzz" on Sunday showed footage of John and Melai together during a rehearsal for "Banana Split," with nothing but warmth and friendliness towards each other.

In an interview aired on the show, John related that, "Okay na kami (ni Melai)."
"Mahal ko si Melai.

Ang dami naming pinagsamahan. I felt okay, kasi more than anyone, siya 'yung importante sa'kin," he added.
The actor-dancer recalled Melai telling him how shocked she was when her ex punched him in the face during the March 21 rehearsal of "Banana Split" at the Music Museum.
"Dumalaw kasi si Jason that time so tinanong ko (si Melai), 'Ano 'yung nangyari sa inyo? Nag-away ba kayo?' Sabi niya, ‘Hindi Kuya.

Hindi kami nag-usap at all. He went straight to you at ginawa na niya 'yun,'" John related.
As noted in the report, Jason's reason for hitting John was the alleged bullying that the former couple supposedly suffered from the other cast members of "Banana Split" two years ago.

This bewildered the latter, since after the former resigned from the gag show, they got to work together on the defunct noontime show "Happy Yipee Yehey" and the afternoon drama, "Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto."
"Ako sa sarili ko alam kong wala akong ginawa sa kanya kaya nakakaharap ako nang maayos sa kanya.

That day after the incident, nung tinawagan siya ni Jason Gainza (show co-star), (tinanong si Jason) 'Ba't mo ginawa 'yon? It’s not about that. It’s not about getting even."
John maintained that no bullying ensued among members of "Banana Split." Poking fun at each other is part of the friendship they share, he added.

That friendship may well be the reason he's having second thoughts about pursuing the case he planned to file against Jason.
"Parang gusto ko nang magpatawad, but 'yung half of me parang ganun na lang ba? Minsan kasi 'pag sobrang mabait ka, minsan naaabuso ka," he said.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Jason clarified that it was not "totally bullying" that urged him to suddenly attack John.
"Kaya kong tanggapin lahat ng jokes, lahat ng pranks basta huwag lang kay Melissa (Melai's real name).

Parati ko nga sinasabi na iba naman 'yung nakakatawa sa pinagtatawanan talaga. Lagyan lang natin nung limit ba, tsaka 'yung respeto ba, kasi babae pa din 'yan," he said.
He likewise apologized anew to the latter and everyone who got affected by what happened. Melai, on the other hand, maintained her silence on the whole issue.

MANILA, Philippines - Barely three weeks after a student of the University of the Philippines-Manila took her life over failure to pay tuition, two students in Batangas shot themselves dead after receiving failing grades in separate incidents Friday afternoon.

Daveson Beron, 22, a mechanical engineering student at Batangas State University, and Don Benedict Pamintuan, 17, a physical therapy freshman at the De La Salle-Dasmariñas in Cavite, used a caliber .38 revolver and a shotgun, respectively, in killing themselves, according to Batangas police director Senior Superintendent Rosauro Acio.

Beron was found with a gunshot wound in the right temple by his mother Analiza at 12:30 p.m. inside their house in Purok 3, Barangay Bolbok, Batangas City, while Pamintuan was found by his father at 4:15 p.m. inside their bathroom in J.P. Laurel Street, Barangay 2, Nasugbu.

Scene of the crime investigators found the caliber .38 revolver beside Beron’s body and a laptop with a message written on its screen: “I’m sorry, I quit.”

Police also found Beron’s cellphone with a message of apology to his parents and siblings for failing to graduate this year. He also asked their forgiveness for having been a disappointment. He thanked them for guiding him, promised he would be watching over them, and asked for prayers.

The family verified school records and was able to confirm that his name was not among the list of graduating students.
Meanwhile, investigators said Pamintuan apparently aimed the shotgun under his chin and pulled the trigger, sending splatters of blood and brain on the walls and ceiling.

The shotgun, owned by a security guard assigned to man the family hardware store, was stored in the stockroom beside the victim’s room.

The family said Pamintuan could have been depressed when he found out that he got failing grades in four subjects, and was to be transferred to the Batangas State University this coming school year.
No suicide note was found beside Pamintuan’s body.

Last March 15, Kristel Tejada, a behavioral science freshman from UP-Manila, drank silver cleaner inside their home in Tondo, after school administrators told her to take a leave of absence from her studies for failing to pay her tuition amounting to P10,000.

Kristel’s death sparked outrage among her fellow UP students and faculty members who demanded to scrap the “no payment, no exam” policy of the institution. UP officials later gave in to their demands.

Three days later, Lee Gunay, a high school sophomore at the St. Bridget College, also in Batangas, shot himself with a caliber .45 pistol after he could no longer take the bullying by his classmates.

<span style "font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; text-align: start;">Andi Eigenmann is on a roll. In fact she is poised to end the year as 2013′s busiest movie star.

The 22-year-old actress, who was launched as a major headliner in last year’s hit “A Secret Affair,” has not one, not just two, but three films hitting cinemas between April and the end of the year.

That’s at least one movie more than the expected output of most, if not all other, more established stars. And to think it’s only April.
The first of those movies is already opening next week, April 17. It’s an indie barkada comedy entitled “Coming Soon” where Andi is the biggest name in the ensemble cast. Her next two movies, though, are as mainstream and as big as they come.
One is a remake of the Danny Zialcita drama classic “Nagalit Ang Buwan Sa Haba ng Gabi” where she co-stars with Cristine Reyes, Jake Cuenca, Gabby Concepcion, and Alice Dixson.

And then comes the next offering from blockbuster director Wenn Deramas, a comedy entitled “Oh My, Mamma Mia,” co-starring comedy queens Maricel Soriano and Eugene Domingo. Both “Nagalit” and “Mamma Mia” are currently in production under Viva Films, Andi’s home studio.

Not surprisingly, Andi “couldn’t be happier” with how things are going in her career. But surprisingly it’s not exactly what she had envisioned for herself up until three years ago.
“I wanted to be like my mom, dad, sister, and brother,” says the daughter of acclaimed actors Mark Gil and Jaclyn Jose and sister of indie favorite Sid Lucero. “I thought I’d be in the indie world bur doing mainstream films every now and then.”
But destiny, or at least the powers-that-be in ABS-CBN, had something else in mind for the youngest Eigenmann. In 2010 she was offered the title roles in the fantaserye “Agua Bendita”, which Andi found too good to refuse.
The series became an instant hit and and Andi became an instant star. Perhaps more importantly, a promising versatile young actress was also discovered.
She has since been fulfilling that promise with her every movie, starting with her first three — the comedy “Mamarazzi”, the remake of the horror classic “Ang Pridyider”, and the drama “A Secret Affair.”
And now we have another three-film showcase in the offing. “What I want is to please people and also myself as an actress,” Andi says. “Kaya ko po ipasok ang sarili ko sa iba’t-ibang characters.”
Sounds like a great way to be busy.

dahil mabilis daw ang director nilang si Marlon Rivera, natapos on time

MARTIAL ARTS and BOXING.

“It’s a big change for me kaya sineryoso ko talaga ito.

“Tsaka serious din ang director namin na si Marlon Rivera. Kaya ako, serious sa pagtrabaho ko sa pelikulang ito.”

Si Marlon Rivera ang executive producer at director ni Eugene Domingo sa award-winning role nito sa “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank.”

Siya
rin ang nagsulat ng screenplay ng “Gunaw” episode ng “My Valentine
Girls,” “Sosy Problems,” at ng “Rain, Rain Go Away” episode ng “Shake,
Rattle & Roll 13.”

MORE MOVIES.

“Radyo” (2001), “Super B” (2002), “Masakip Sa Dibdib: The Boobita Rose
Story” (2004), at “Status: Single” (2009).

More movies talaga.

“Isang show lang muna ang concentration, which is “Bubble Gang” sa GMA-7.

“Paminsan-minsan may guestings sa ibang shows pero mas gusto ko talagang gumawa ng maraming movies.

“Gusto ko rin makagawa ng isang serious indie film—yung madadala sa iba’t ibang film festivals abroad.”

SINGLE and VERY MUCH AVAILABLE. Wala raw love life si Rufa Mae ngayon.

Walang communication, walang text—as in dedmahan na.

“Okey lang kasi naging busy rin ako sa shooting ng movie.

“Kaya okey lang na walang love life. Enjoy naman ako sa pagiging single ko ngayon.

“Single and very much available!”
