MANILA, Philippines – People tend to overlook the small, everyday miracles that sometimes speak volumes about conquering obstacles on a day-to-day basis. From sliding into a pair of slacks that hadn’t fit since the holidays to the disappearance of a blemish that had stubbornly stuck around past its welcome, these are the little victories that we all claim over what life throws at us.
However, as time slowly becomes an adversary, we come to realize that there are few miraculous remedies that can erase those fine lines and brighten the dull skin that comes with exposure and stress.
Enter the vast array of anti-aging products that promise to erase lines and plump up wrinkles. Among the plethora of products stands one that, even just by name, promises to deliver miracles. Philosophy’s well-received Miracle Worker line consists of anti-aging retinoid pads and solution, moisturizer, and concentrate.
Pulling together nine different key ingredients, the complete line claims drastic results in just one week.
While the Miracle Worker line has just been introduced to the Philippine market, it has been getting good reviews in the US market since its launch there last year. “The reason why we are just launching it now is because Philosophy wanted to try first how the people in the US would react to the product,” explains Krista Mari Tamayo, the Store Specialists, Inc. merchandising assistant who handles the brand. “Once they found out that it’s a hit, that’s when they wanted to explore the Asian market,” she continues.
The retinoid pads and solution is the powerhouse product among the line. It touts four key anti-aging ingredients: high-performance retinoid, barrier rejuvenation complex, vitamin C, and green tea extract. These four ingredients simultaneously work to support, soothe, protect, and restore the different properties of the skin for an all-around youthful visage. While the retinoid helps to keep skin firm and complexion bright, the vitamin C and barrier rejuvenation complex boost the skin’s natural protection from environmental factors that all women are daily exposed to.
Taking off from where the retinoid pads and solution leaves off is the anti-aging moisturizer and concentrate. The moisturizer consists of natural oils like flaxseed, sunflower and olive oils, resveratrol, glutathione, and ascorbyl glucoside. While at least one of these ingredients and its effects should be familiar, the rest brighten skin, enhance vitality, and maintain moisture. The concentrate focuses solely on tocopheryl acetate, which is an antioxidant that aids protection against environmental factors and soothes irritations.
While the brand hardly has to rely on celebrity endorsers, Philosophy invited the ever elegant Tetta Ortiz-Matera to help put a face to the Miracle Worker line. “We thought to ask her because she is the perfect example of the inspiring message that Philosophy is about. She loves that the brand is aimed at empowering women to believe in themselves at any age,” Tamayo says. Ortiz-Matera is also the best indicator of the age group that the brand wishes to define. “Because the retinoid that is used in the product is quite powerful, we really don’t suggest it for women in their 20s or 30s. Instead I’d recommend Help Me, which is Philosophy’s best selling product for that age group,” suggests Tamayo.
Pushed by the belief that women still believe in miracles, the Miracle Worker line aims to help women not only look good well into their 50s and beyond, but also to overcome the insecurities that come with age. Still spurred on by Cristina Carlino’s initial desire to bring women closer to quality, fuss-less skincare, Philosophy brings the “miracle” of young and revitalized skin to Manila.
