Two years after the death of Quezon-based journalist Bert Sison, police authorities on Friday finally arrested two more suspects in his killing.
Police Inspector Elena Eleazar, chief of the Quezon Provincial Police Office, on Saturday said local policemen arrested Mario Biscocho, 43, and Michael Biscocho, 26, in their respective homes in Barangay Lutucan, Sariaya town at past 5 p.m. Friday.
Blamed for the killing of 60-year-old journalist Sison, the two suspects are considered the two most wanted men in Quezon, Eleazar added.
Sison was the publisher of the weekly Regional Bulletin and a radio anchor for the weekly “Harana" (Serenade) program aired over radio dzAT-AM in Lucena City.
The journalist was driving his car with his daughter, Liwayway, in Barangay Lutucan when they were attacked on June 30, 2008. Sison died on the spot while her daughter, who pretended to be dead, survived with a wound.
The two suspects were arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Virgilio Alpajora of the Regional Trial Court Branch 59 in Lucena. The two are currently in the custody of the Quezon PPO while authorities prepare charges against them.
Michael, who was caught with a caliber .45 pistol loaded with nine bullets during the arrest, will be also slapped with the additional charge of illegal possession of firearms.
In May 2009, police already arrested Menandro Biscocho, a third suspect in the killing, who was charged with murder and attempted murder. (See: PNP dangles P1.5M to solve 3 attacks in Mindanao)
Menandro was arrested with the help of an informant, who was awarded with P150,000 for helping authorities locate and apprehend the suspect.
