MANILA, Philippines - The topnotcher in the 2010 bar examinations said on Thursday that he plans to serve in his province, and that he does not fear going into politics.
Cesareo Antonio Singzon Jr. got the highest score of 89% in the Bar Exams held last year.
Singzon did not wait for the release of the exam results outside the Supreme Court; nor did he wait for the list to be posted on the Internet.
Instead, he chose to go to a church in Manaoag in Pangasinan on the day results were released.
Singzon graduated valedictorian at the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) law school in Makati City.
His father, Cesareo Singzon, Sr., who is also a lawyer, admitted being nervous when the results came out.
"I was praying for passing, not for number one. I was searching, number 10, 9. Number 3 wala pa rin. Tapos 2, sabi ko - naku patay wala ang anak ko," said the elder Singzon.
Meanwhile, his mother, Imelda, said she learned of her son’s Bar exam results and ranking while in the office. She said she then got a stomach cramp.
“Staff ko ang nagsabi sa akin. Sabi niya congratualtions. Sabi ko bakit. Sabi niya tinawagan ko ang friend ko sa Supreme Court, sabi niya Ari topped the bar. So noong una, it didn’t sink in because I was really rushing. I had a job to do. Noong sinabi noong isa ko pang staff na ‘Ma’am si Ari nag-top ng bar!’ napaiyak na ako. Hindi ko ma-imagine. Napaiyak ako, sumakit ang tiyan ko, parang nanginginig ako. I was supposed to have another meeting pero i had to cancel it kasi I couldn’t think clearly,” said Imelda.
Cesareo or Ari got 89 percent in the Bar examinations.
He is set to take his Master’s degree either in New York University or University of Columbia.
He said, however, that he will return to practice law and help the country.
“My immediate plan is first I’m going to continue working sa Caguioa and Gatmaytan [law office] and then eventually I will go abroad for further studies then come back. There’s no other place to practice law but the Philippines,” said Ari.
He said he plans on serving in Catbalogan in Samar province, and indicated he would not shirk joining politics should it be necessary.
