MANILA, Philippines - There’s another Concepcion who’s out to give showbiz a try: Garrie Concepcion.
Garrie (Gabrielle), daughter of ex-matinee idol Gabby Concepcion and Grace Ibuna, is trying her luck in singing. She’s already recorded an album, which will be launched very soon.
“Since I was three I’ve been singing, doing something I like to do. And when I got the opportunity to share my talent hindi ko na siya tinanggihan,” Garrie said on “Showbiz News Ngayon,” March 17.
One of the cuts in the album is “I Can,” which was originally performed by Regine Velasquez, then Donna Cruz and Mikee Cojuangco.
Garrie admits it’s her personal favorite. “It’s something that talks about life in general. That you can do whatever. I can live. I can love. You only live your life once. It’s full of life. The song is full of life and full of hope. It’s just how you should all live life.”
The showbiz newbie shared that her sister KC Concepcion and dad Gabby support her endeavor.
“Si Ate naman she always tells me to love what I’m doing and do what I love. ‘Yung gano’n... and just enjoy it.”
“Papa is supportive also. Actually, sinasabi naman niya before na as much as possible ayaw niya but since 'yung mga daughters niya ‘yung may gusto, siyempre supportive siya.”
Since she’s tried her hand in singing, can acting be far behind?
“I’m not closing my doors to acting. Pero ngayon ito talaga ang gusto kong subukan, ang singing.”
As early as December last year, Garrie has already signaled her intention to join showbiz. When interviewed on “SNN” last December 21 after she hosted an outreach program initiated by the Quezon City government, she had articulated her wish to follow in her dad's and sister’s footsteps.
“Comparisons will always be there. I would want to be known as myself, not as kapatid ni KC or anak ni Gabby. Someday I know I’ll get there,” she said in the previous “SNN” interview.
