MANILA, Philippines – Given the chance, young sexy model-actress Sam Pinto would love to play a superhero on TV and in movies.
“Dream role! Actually, alam mo mga dream role ko talaga ginawa na ni Marian Rivera eh. Kasi 'di ba yung mga roles niya, like Dyesebel, Darna... sobrang gaganda ng mga roles niya,” she told Bulletin Entertainment in an interview on March 30.
The Kapuso star added, “Especially 'yung Dyesebel, I can relate to that kasi I can swim. I love the water and everything. And then Darna. Wala lang. Why not be a superhero, 'di ba? I mean [to have a] very strong personality, [be a] strong woman, and she can save the world,” she added.
And it seems Sam just got her wish after all, though not yet in the degree she wants, as she was cast in GMA’s latest fantaserye, “Captain Barbell: Ang Pagbabalik.” Sam plays Sammy, a girl who acquired her superpowers “because of a lipstick.” Playing the grown-up Sammy in the series, her character will be making her appearance beginning next week.
Aside from this, Sam has already been appearing regularly in the long-running gag show “Bubble Gang,” as part of the group called “Bubblets” with Gwen Zamora, Jackie Rice and Ellen Adarna.
“For me, I love 'Bubble Gang.' I love working there kasi it's so fun, I feel like I'm just playing. Parang when you're a kid, 'di ba, lagi kang nagro-role play. Feeling mo caveman ka, feeling mo nagbabahay-bahayan ka lang... feeling ko gano'n,” she intimated.
She also said that she’s happy to be working with some of the industry's comic veterans, especially Michael V. and Ogie Alcasid.
“Working with Kuya Bitoy and Kuya Ogie... sobrang galing nila, as in babasahin lang nila ['yung script tapos], gets na nila agad. Pa'no mo nagagawa 'yun, ako kailangan hundred times ko pa babasahin bago ko ma-gets,” she said, laughing.
“Pero kasi they've been in the industry for so long already, so gets na talaga nila kaagad 'yun. Pero they're so nice, as in sila pa 'yung maggu-good morning sa'yo,” Sam noted.
But according to her, she didn’t have a hard time adjusting with the cast of “Bubble Gang” because everyone made her feel welcomed.
“Kasi everyone's very helpful eh. Lalo na before [na] medyo baluktot 'yung Tagalog ko, tinatranslate na lang nila to English kasi nahihirapan talaga ko. Pero everyone's really nice,” said she.
She also dispelled any rivalry between her fellow Bubblets, saying that they are real friends even after the cameras stop rolling.
“We borrow each other's make-up, clothes. And then we go out, kasama pa nga si Peachy [si Ruffa Mae]. Ang hilig gumimik nun,” she said, laughing.
Temporarily veering away from talks about her projects, Sam also answered the question pertaining to that liplocking photo of her and De La Salle University cager Simon Atkins that recently made its rounds in the internet yet again.
Asked how she reacted when it came out, Sam laughingly said, “'My friend posted that!'”
“No kasi this was way way before, I think it was two, three years ago, we were still together. You know naman mga friends, 'picture picture'... ayun, wala lang.
“Nakakaasar lang na hindi ko naisip na mag-aartista ako na lalabas pala 'yun sa buong mundo,” she explained.
Also a “Party Pilipinas” mainstay, Sam then divulged her upcoming project: a stint on the Marian Rivera-starrer TV series, “Spooky Nights.”
"I think it's every month, different stories siya. So ako 'yung next month. Parang daw 'The Ring' [daw 'yung sa ‘kin]. Pero horror-comedy naman 'yun eh. Ewan ko, 'yun pa lang sabi sa 'kin. 'Yun pa lang as of now,” said she.
On a final note, the 21-year old model-actress said that she plans to continue her fashion studies in London. Sam was studying fashion in De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and stopped just before joining “Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up” in 2009.
