MANILA, Philippines — Organizers of the 2011 Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant said Saturday that judges were given until Sunday to choose the semifinalists in this year’s competition.
Tessa Mangahas, spokesperson for Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI), said the duty of narrowing down the competition among 40 pre-pageant contestants has been a challenge for the judges “because many girls stood out.”
“Unlike previous years when the prettiest girls of the lot easily stood out at the early part of the competition, this year, the judges have been having a real difficult time. Masyado daw madaming maganda sa batch na ito, which is a good thing pero medyo difficult din. Even online polls (unofficial or otherwise) have very different results. That’s why there were three screenings. That may also be the reason the selection of the semifinalists (of which I don’t have the final number yet) may really go down the wire,” said Mangahas.
The 40 candidates took part in the pre-pageant show in which they paraded in evening terno and cocktail dress at the Republiq Club, Resorts World in Paranaque City last March 23.
Observers said that the event is important because it is when the preliminary judges choose this year’s semi-finalists.
The semi-finalists will be announced during the grand coronation night at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City on April 10, 2011. A separate panel of judges will choose the top winners in the grand finals.
