Amid calls by their loved ones for justice, two women victims of separate violent shooting incidents in Quezon City last week were laid to rest Sunday.
Sheryl Sarmiento was buried at Himlayang Pilipino in Quezon City while Teresita Teaño was buried at Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina, radio dzBB reported.
Relatives of Sarmiento wore white T-shirts with the message "Justice for Sheryl" and green armbands as they made their way to the Himlayang Pilipino.
But Sarmiento’s widower Jonas admitted he was scared for his children’s security following last week’s incident.
An earlier dzBB report said this year’s Father’s Day was a sad one for Jonas as he lost his wife.
Last June 14, heavily armed men wearing black masks and jackets shot dead Sarmiento in a daring ambush near a mall in Quezon City.
Witnesses said the assailants’ van blocked the victim’s car at about 9:30 p.m. at the corner of Regalado Street and Commonwealth Avenue.
Police said they are looking into the possibility the incident may be a case of mistaken identity.
An initial investigation showed a van blocked the path of Sarmiento’s Toyota Altis (NIU-285), and four men alighted from the van. The men then opened fire on the Altis.
Meanwhile, in Marikina City, friends and family of Teaño released white balloons into the air as they buried her at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.
They also appealed to witnesses to come out and provide authorities with information.
Police have produced sketches of at least two of three suspects who shot dead Teano and took her Hyundai Accent car in Quezon City last June 15.
One of the suspects was described as 5’5" to 5’8" tall, brown-complexioned, and 31 to 33 years old.
A second suspect was described as long-haired, 4’11" to 5 feet tall, fair-complexioned, and 28 to 30 years old.
An initial investigation had showed that Teaño was heading into the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center at the corner of Kamuning Road and T. Gener Street when she was attacked.
The men then took her maroon Hyundai Accent and allegedly ran over her with it while fleeing.
