Kim's lessons on family, love

MANILA, Philippines – At 21 years old, Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu already has her own share of heartaches.

Appearing in an emotional live interview with Boy Abunda on “The Buzz” Aug. 14, Chiu shared the most important thing she learned when it comes to dealing with family. This question was prompted by Chiu’s statement in the VTR aired prior the interview proper where she said, “May takot ako sa utang.”

“Kung ano kasi ‘yung nakikita mo sa magulang mo na ayaw mo, ‘yun yung bagay na hindi mo gagawin paglaki mo. Kung maganda, gagayahin mo. Kung hindi, pagsisikapan mo na maging maganda. ‘Yun,” the actress explained, teary-eyed.

She also said that children have the choice if they would want to emulate their parents’ actions when they become grown-ups themselves.

“And for me, ayokong mangyari ‘yun kasi tumatanda tayo ng… Kagaya ko, wala ‘yung mga magulang ko. Gusto ko ‘yung buhay ko maging matuwid. Hindi magulo,” she related.

Chiu currently lives with her siblings and other family members, but not with her parents. Asked if she clings to the hope that her family would reunite one day, the actress answered, “Buo naman kami eh. ‘Andyan ‘yung ate ko, mga kapatid ko. Sama-sama kami.”

Although she admitted that she’s no longer in touch with her mother and father, Chiu said that she has forgiven them a long time ago.

More, the actress said that she and her family are happy and that her siblings are glad with what she has achieved in her career so far.

But when queried if she’s praying for a chance to talk things out with her parents, Chiu just said, “Masaya na po ako eh. Masaya naman na po kami. Maayos naman buhay namin.”

Last year, Chiu and former onscreen partner Gerald Anderson’s love team was split up. The grapevine also alleged that there’s “something going on” between them, proven some time later when Anderson admitted in another “The Buzz” interview Sept. 5 last year that they had a “special relationship.” However, he clarified that they weren’t committed to each other because of their respective careers.

Now, Chiu stressed that she and Gerald are “okay.”

“Sobrang okay namin. Hanggang ngayon nandiyan siya, ‘pag may problema ako, ‘pag ‘di ko na kaya, kinakausap ko siya. Nakikinig siya,” she shared, adding that they’re now more open to each other.

Through her separation from Anderson, Chiu said she learned many things such as loving oneself.

“I learned to love myself more. I learned how to be strong and… kung hindi ka naman nagmahal, hindi ka naman masasaktan eh,” she said.

The actress asserted that she’s “thankful ako na naramdaman ko ‘yun” and that she harbors no ill-feelings towards anyone.

“Masaya ako na naramdaman ko yun,” she stressed.

Her biggest lesson when it comes to love is, “Hindi naman masama magmahal.”

“Tao ka rin naman, so marami kang mararamdaman sa ngalan ng pag-ibig,” she said.

Prodded by Abunda to tell how she dealt with the pain of loving and losing, Chiu answered, “Umiyak ka lang. Pagkatapos nun, wala na. Masaya ka na ulit. Kasama mo na ‘yung mga friends mo, mga taong nagmamahal sa’yo.”

She also admitted to being scared at first when her love team with Anderson was dissolved, thinking that their fans might not accept being paired with other people in future projects.

“Pero narealize ko [na] trabaho naman namin ‘to eh. And alam ko [na] mahal na mahal ako ng mga sumusuporta sa ‘kin.

“Sinusuportahan naman nila ang kahit na anong projects ko, project ni… ‘yun,” she said, referring to Anderson.

In parting, Abunda did his famous “mahiwagang salamin” thing and asked Chiu what she’d tell herself in the mirror.

“Congratulations!” the still teary-eyed Chiu quipped.

Meanwhile, in lighter news, Chiu recalled one unforgettable experience while in Hong Kong recently for the shoot of her upcoming primetime TV series, “Binondo Girl.” Her role required her to be in full guy’s get-up complete with the business suit and a mustache.

“Break kasi namin no’n, lunch break, so tinanggal ko ‘yung wig ko. So nakabihis babae ako and then naiwan ‘yung bigote kasi one hour siya bago ikabit, so sabi ko na hindi ko na tatanggalin.

“Tumitingin ako sa mga tiangge, and sa mga tiangge ang tindero parang Arabo. Nakatingin siya sa ‘kin nang matagal. Sabi ko, ‘Ba’t niya ko tinitingnan?’ Nakalimutan ko may bigote pala ako. Kaya naman pala!

“Ta’s inabutan niya ko ng lighter, ‘yung nakasindi, susunugin niya [‘yung bigote]. Tumakbo ako, nagsumbong ako. Ayun naman, na-explain naman namin sa kanya [na] ‘fake, fake!’ [points to fake mustache],” Chiu told “Entertainment Live” in a taped interview aired on Aug. 13.
