Science Undersecretary Graciano Yumul Jr. said a new tropical depression is likely to enter Philippine territory late Saturday and will be locally codenamed "Ramon."
"Sabado ng gabi, habang tumatama si 'Quiel' sa Cagayan Valley, may tropical depression na 'Ramon' papasok sa Sabado ng gabi ... ang tinutumbok ay Cagayan Valley din," Yumul said in an interview on dzBB radio.
But he said that while their models show the two cyclones will hit Northern Luzon in succession, there is no sign they will interact or merge.
For now, he said residents in Cagayan Valley, northern Luzon and even Metro Manila should prepare as both cyclones are likely to enhance the southwest monsoon.
"Sunod-sunod lang, pagtama ni 'Quiel' at paglabas ng Philippine area of responsibility ... lapit si 'Ramon' sa Northern Luzon," he said.
On the other hand, Yumul said Quiel is likely to bring the same amount of rain as "Pedring" (Nesat), about 15 to 25 mm per hour.
"Inaasahan natin tatama siya sa lupa sa Cagayan Valley sa Sabado ng hapon o gabi (at) lalabas siya ng PAR Linggo ng gabi," he said.
