MANILA, Philippines — Thousands of young people from across the country will gather in Dagupan City in Pangasinan Friday to take part in “Eleven Eleven Eleven” (Nov. 11, 2011), a nationwide praying of the rosary led by the youth, for world peace.
The event to be held at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist is part of the ongoing rosary prayer campaign “A Million Roses for the World,” which started last Oct. 10 with prayer intentions for Angola, and ends on May 30, 2012, with prayer intentions for the Philippines.
The prayer event aims to offer the praying of the rosary for a nation each day within the 200-day campaign period. Tuesday’s intentions will be for Mauritania.
The Christian Brothers De La Salle schools, Saint Paul de Chartres Schools nationwide, and the member schools of the Manila Archdiocesan and Parochial Schools Association (MAPSA) have committed to join “Eleven Eleven Eleven.”
Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas said, “World peace can only be attained through prayer. The rosary is the life of our Blessed Lord from the eyes of His Blessed Virgin Mother. This campaign aims to teach our youth that prayer can change the destinies of peoples.”
There is a need for the youth to rediscover the rosary and reclaim it as our favorite prayer, he said.
The prelate said the date should not be seen as a day for superstitious beliefs and practices to gain fortune. “Bring Christ into this day and give the youth a chance to focus on God and not on superstitions and secret charms for luck.”
Meanwhile, Friday at 49 minutes before noon, people around the globe will experience a numerically auspicious hour and date unlike any other in modern times: 11:11, on 11/11/11.
While millions may marvel at the once-per-century string of ones on their clocks, mobile devices and calendars, to be sure much of humanity will hardly bat an eye.
But many numerologists, metaphysicists, psychics, and their followers, occultists and conspiracy theorists will be watching for signs of some broad humanistic awakening, a harmonic convergence, even a portal opening into a new dimension, as some experts predict a major "shift in consciousness."
Thousands will gather for 11/11/11 ceremonies, trance dances or day-in-the-life video projects around the world, and several Facebook pages marking the date have popped up. (With AFP)
