MANILA, Philippines — Four people, including a member of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force-Explosives Ordnance Division (PNP-SAF-EOD), were killed Wednesday afternoon following an explosion in Taguig City.
Ten others, mostly minors, were injured, a police official said.
But Chief Inspector Jenny Tecson, spokesperson and concurrent chief of the Southern Police District Public Information Office, can only confirm two fatalities – the policeman and his companion who both died on the spot following the explosion that occurred at about 3 p.m. at Daisy Street corner Sto. Nino-1, Lower Bicutan in Taguig City. The policeman and his companion remained unidentified.
Tecson said that based on sketchy reports the SPD received, the explosion was caused by a vintage bomb.
Tecson said the Taguig City Police under Senior Supt. Tomas Apolinario is still investigating the incident. But it identified one of the fatalities as Liza Grimaldo, 19, who just came from a nearby pharmacy to buy medicine for a sick sibling.
Most of the injured minors were on their way home from school, police said.
