Fans of Filipino-Mexican teen Jessica Sanchez rejoiced when the petite singer was pronounced safe in this week’s elimination round on “American Idol.”
Screams were heard in the audience as host Ryan Seacrest made the announcement on Thursday night's show (Friday morning in Manila), and netizens lost no time in congratulating Sanchez on the Internet.
The 16-year-old almost got eliminated last week when she received the lowest number of votes in the reality show.
But judges used their one and only “save” power this season to keep Sanchez in the show.
This week, Sanchez sang Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’” with much passion, prompting judges to say using their “save” power was worth it.
She also sang Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness,” and judge Steve Tyler gushed, “Good god almighty, bless my soul, you've done it again."
Fans have turned to the Internet to campaign for Sanchez to stay on the show, urging people to vote for her.
Colton Dixon got eliminated this week, as he was one of two contestants who got the lowest number of votes among the 53 million votes cast.
