MANILA, Philippines - Teachers who would be rendering poll-related duties in the coming 2013 midterm polls appealed yesterday for higher compensation.
The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) expressed desire for additional honorarium for teachers since their jobs as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) have more than doubled due to the use of the automated election system (AES).
“There is a problem because they have clustered three precincts to use one precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machine... which should have nine teachers but instead they only assigned three,” ACT secretary-general France Castro explained.
She further noted that the teachers don’t have time to relax even for a minute because they would have to serve as many as 1,000 registered voters on Election Day.
