Jessica Sanchez brought the house down on the second night of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday (Thursday morning, Manila time).
Backed by a choir, the “American Idol” runner-up wowed delegates with a soulful rendition of “You’re All I Need To Get By”, the classic duet by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
“I might not be old enough to vote, but I’m so honored and excited to perform at @BarackObama’s big party in Charlotte next week!#DNC2012!” the 17-year-old Filipino-Mexican-American had tweeted over the weekend.
Saxophonist Branford Marsalis and DJ Cassidy were the two other artists who performed Wednesday.
Jessica is at the tailend of the “American Idol” tour, which kicked off in Detroit in July 6 and will conclude in Manila on September 21. She sneaked in her DNC performance between tour dates in Syracuse, New York (September 4) and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania (September 6).
The Foo Fighters, Mary J. Blige, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Marc Anthony will entertain the delegates on the conclusion of the convention on Thursday.
