Richard Poon thinks Maricar is 'the one’

Richard Poon believes girlfriend Maricar Reyes is truly “the one” for him.

“I truly believe that she’s the one,” he said in an interview on ABS-CBN’s morning talk show “Kris TV” on Monday, September 10. “I’m really hoping na this is the last time I’d fall for somebody.”

“I appreciate everything he brought to my life,” Maricar said in the same interview.

The singer first admitted his now two-month relationship with Maricar on “Kris TV,” August 29. The two first met while they were doing the music video for Richard’s single “You and I.”

“When we came together, parang relaxed lang. If someone asked, then we’ll say. E nagkataon na you asked,” the actress said about Richard’s admission on Kris Aquino’s talk show.

Making sure

But what took them so long to finally commit to each other? According to Richard, he really wanted to be sure about what he was feeling for Maricar.

“We had a liking na for each other pero, ako, parang I decided lang na… baka puro emotions lang ito. I want to take it slower. So sabi ko, try ko muna,” he explained.

Richard added, “Kasi minsan when you decide na high on emotions, but when you look back alam mong mali e.”

Maricar defended Richard’s decision to wait. “When he explained it why… nakita ko yung sincerity niya na he really wanted to be sure,” she said.

Reconnect

Although the two first met in 2009, Richard and Maricar only became close friends when they reconnected during the 2010 Star Magic Ball.

“Nung Star Magic Ball, I just came to her table. Sabi ko, ‘Uy, kumusta ka na?’ Tapos nag-start na yun. We went out again. Di na ako lumayo for long,” Richard narrated.

“Alam mo, it hasn’t changed. After a year, parang wala naman akong nakitang iba. Wala akong nararamdaman na iba for any other person or attraction.”

The Kapamilya star described her relationship with Richard from period from 2010 until July 2012 as “magkabarkada.”

“Ang nangyari kasi, magkabarkada kami. And it so happens because we like each other, we ended up sitting together, we ended up talking,” Maricar said.

‘I’m not gonna leave anymore’

They knew the attraction was there, but Maricar felt Richard was still guarding himself from her before they became a couple in July 1. Because of this, the actress decided to distance herself from the singer “para hindi mag-build yung (attraction).”

Richard added, “Ako naman, di niya alam na nagbi-build ako to a point na I’m ready to commit to you na talagang steady.”

So on July 1, on her home way from Tagaytay, Maricar received a call from Richard.

“I was driving home tapos nakita ko na tumatawag siya. Medyo nainis ako kasi dumidistance nga ako, e,” she said. “I wanted to hear also what he had to say. We just talked that morning na mag-distance. So why are you calling me?”

They met after the phone call and, Maricar said, Richard explained why he was distancing himself and that he wanted her to know who he real is without putting his best foot forward.

“Sabi ko, ‘Ito na ako, I’m not gonna leave any more’,” Richard said. “I think she knew ever since na there were feelings. The crucial point for me is not just the feelings but (if it) will it last.”

A step at a time

On her part, Maricar said he now sees “the fruit” of Richard’s patience.

“Gusto niya, ang basis namin of a relationship is deep. Friends talaga. Walang best foot forward. Kung sino talaga ako, sino talaga siya, yun yung makikita naming.”

Will there be little Maricars and little Richards in the near future?, asked “Kris TV” host Kris Aquino.

“We’re taking it a step at a time. At least we know we’re committed to each other,” Richard answered.
