MANILA, Philippines — Authorities say at least 10 workers were killed at a building construction site in Makati City on Thursday when a motorized gondola supporting them collapsed.
Makati Mayor Junjun Binay said the workers were standing on the platform at the Eton Residences located at Paseo de Roxas corner Gallardo Streets in Makati City. The platform had been elevated to the 32nd floor and then suddently fell to the 7th floor.
Police chief Froilan Bonifacio said the deaths were a result of a freak accident.
Mayor Binay has now ordered the suspension of the construction works at the Eton Residences pending safety inspection by the city's engineering office.
