Bangui-ngui shows strong performance

BANGUI-NGUI, Sulu – Despite its meager financial resources, the municipal government here has been showing a relatively strong performance in governance of administrative and fiscal management.

Municipal Mayor Abdulwahid Sahidulla said on Wednesday that his government here is currently utilizing the 20 percent development fund taken from the monthly Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of his town to construct and develop the needed infrastructures that could boost economic activities in this municipality.

Sahidulla, however, lamented that his town has failed to receive since last year assistance from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and the district engineering office of Sulu for socio-economic development.

“I am sad to inform you that my town has failed to receive any project for socio-economic development since last year but we still manage to move on,” Sahidulla said.

He said the ARMM government has not allotted for this town project coming from the regional and district-funded projects since last year.

What we are doing now is only utilizing the meager resources that we have for development of this town, Sahidulla explained.

As this developed, Sahidulla appealed to officials of the ARMM to help them improve the municipality by providing them with some funds and projects for development.

These projects, he said, include the building of more wharfs in the municipality to serve the fishermen, ice-cold storage facility, health care centers and hospital, and school buildings.

He said the town lacks the necessary health care centers and hospital to take care of the poor and sick people of the municipality.

Likewise, Sahidulla said his government lacks the needed school buildings and teachers to serve the growing number of children in the town.

He said most of the school buildings in this town were built during the martial law era yet, and they are now dilapidated.
