Cops begin manhunt for killer of BIR exec in Rizal

The police in Rizal province have started a hunt for the suspects in the killing of a Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) official in Antipolo City last week.

A report on dzRH radio Monday said the Rizal police made public a photo of Armando Cariño, whom they charged last Saturday for the killing of BIR official Marcelino Yap.

Rizal police chief Senior Superintendent Manuel Prieto said Cariño was charged for the killing last Saturday before the Antipolo City Prosecutor's Office.

Police said at least two witnesses in the killing positively identified him as the gunman.

Also charged by the police were Cariño’s nephew Andy Cariño, who was recently arrested by the police; and a certain Tony.

At least two unidentified motorcycle-riding men allegedly shot dead Yap, a BIR Revenue District Officer, in Antipolo City on Thursday.

Yap died of least five gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

However, police got leads based on the examination of the suspects' motorcycle, which the victim's driver rammed to hinder their escape.

The investigators said Andy owned the motorcycle used in the killing, and may have tried to cover up for the crime by reporting to the Marikina police that his motorcycle had been stolen.

However, the dzRH report said the photos of Cariño released by the police were taken in 2008, when he was arrested for illegal possession of firearms.
