De Lima: Probe may extend to PNP

MANILA, Philippines – Justice Secretary Leila de Lima disclosed Wednesday that the Department of Justice (DoJ) may extend the corruption probe to Philippine National Police (PNP).

The former chair of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) said that it is very possible that her department may also investigate the PNP if a whistleblower surfaces and testifies.

“It's very possible, basta may lumutang lang nag-aantay lang kami,” said De Lima.

De Lima admitted that they have been hearing allegations that there are also corruption and irregularities in the PNP, similar to that of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

She said they have to make sure that there are strong pieces of evidence before starting a probe into the PNP.

“Hintayin muna namin kung talagang merong evidence, of course. Syempre we heard of that allegation but unlike sa AFP, wala pang lumalantad about dito sa PNP. So for now di pa namin masimulan,” said De Lima.
