MANILA, Philippines – If the rumors are true, international Pinay pop star Charice will be starring in her second Hollywood film, with no less than award-winning actress Salma Hayek as one of her co-stars.
Though no official word has been released yet, various US entertainment websites reported on April 4 that Charice was cast in an upcoming Frank Coraci movie, “Here Comes the Boom.” Coraci is the same director behind “Click,” “Around the World in 80 Days” and “The Wedding Singer.”
These websites only alleged that Charice will be playing a character named Malia, giving no further details about the role.
According to hollywoodlife.com and magnustoday.net, “Here Comes the Boom” is about a music teacher (to be played, as per magnustoday.net, by “Grown Ups” and “I Now Pronounce You as Chuck & Larry” actor Kevin James) who “goes to cage fighting for prize money to keep the [school’s] music program.”
Meanwhile, to strengthen their claim, examiner.com published on Monday that Charice was spotted in Boston “over the weekend on the set of a new film with some big names.” It also cited a March 31 tweet by another reported cast member, Henry Winkler (“Click”), confirming the production of the movie and that he, Hayek and James are in Boston for the shoot.
A quick check on the movie’s IMDb (The Internet Movie Database) webpage revealed the status of “Here Comes the Boom” as “filming” in time for a July 29, 2012 release.
Aside from Charice, Hayek and James, IMDb also listed Joe Rogan, currently a commentator for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and host of now-defunct reality show “Fear Factor,” as part of the cast.
In 2009, Charice had her Hollywood debut when she appeared as herself in the animated flick “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.”
Charice is currently in the US to finish recording her second album and to tape her episodes for the hit TV musical “Glee,” where she plays exchange student Sunshine Corazon, rival to Lea Michele’s Rachel Berry.
