MANILA, Philippines - Thousands of devotees flocked to various churches in Quezon City in observance of Good Friday.
Catholics observed Visita Iglesia and prayed the Stations of the Cross, and many people went to confession.
Church-goer Butch Bianzon told ABS-CBN News he has been braving the heat and beating fatigue for 5 years now for his annual Visita Iglesia after his wife died in 2006.
"Panata ko na ito every Holy Week," he said. "Ipinagdadasal ko health ko."
Florida Gillego, meanwhile, has made it a point to visit one church everyday as a way to observe the Holy Week. Today, she chose the popular Sto. Domingo Church, which was also packed for a dramatic interpretation of Siete Palabras or the Seven Last Words of Christ.
"Hindi lang naman sa sarili ko pinagdadasal ko kundi sa pamilya, at sa iba na rin," she said.
At a time when many would be at the beach or party during the Holy Week, devout Catholics expressed hope that the public would also allot some time to pray and meditate on the sacrifices of Christ.
