Filipina nanny all praises for soon-to-be wed Prince William

MANILA, Philippines – The Filipina nanny who previously served the Royal Household has nothing but good words for her ward, Prince William, who will exchange vows with Kate Middleton on April 29.

In her interview with ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau before the announcement of the engaged couple’s wedding, Araceli “Lillie” Piccio described the second in line to the British throne as kind and humble, preferring to be addressed by his first name rather than his title.

“’No, Lillie. It’s still the same. Call me William,’ [he said]. And one time we met in the Palace and he kissed me,” Piccio related.

She differentiated between Harry, the younger brother, and William saying the former is "mas gwapo" and is "the naughty one."

Following the royal protocol for the wedding, Piccio declined to be interviewed again, as stated in the ABS-CBN report.

Piccio, who hails from Bacolod, served the Royal Family of Princess Diana and Prince Charles for 14 years. She resigned a few years after Lady Di’s shocking demise in 1997. As earlier reported, “Miss Lillie” (as she was fondly called by Diana) was the first Filipino employed by the Royal Family and the only Filipina in the royal household.

William’s much-followed upcoming union with Kate is not the first royal affair to which Piccio had been invited. She previously attended the funeral ceremony of Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Margaret, whom she has also served.

Another Filipino representing the country in the royal wedding is Deputy Ambassador Reynaldo Catapang, the Head of Missions in London.

Catapang related his excitement over the invitation in a separate interview with ABS-CBN, branding it as “a lifetime experience.”

“I would prefer wearing our national dress. Barong siguro,” he added.

Piccio and Catapang will grace occasion to be held at the Westminster Abbey in London along with other esteemed guests such as politicians and celebrities, including power couple David and Victoria Beckham, “Mr. Bean” star Rowan Atkinson, director Guy Ritchie, and Sir Elton John, the voice behind the tribute song for Princess Di, “Candle In The Wind.”

Meanwhile, some members of the Filipino community in London are said to be considering making a donation to one of the charities that the couple supports. As related by Tess Dizon-Vega, Consul General of the Philippine Embassy in London, to ABS-CBN News, William and Kate “prefer that gifts be donated to their favorite charities.”
