One month after its launch, Mozilla's Firefox 4 browser passed the 100 million mark in terms of downloads, but still trails other browsers in terms of worldwide usage.
At least 105,166,780 copies of the browser had been downloaded as of 10:49 a.m. Tuesday, according to Mozilla's site. Some 101.7 million copies had been downloaded as of 2:19 p.m. Sunday.
Mozilla launched the latest version of its Firefox browser last March 22. The new browser had promised faster performance and a more streamlined look.
An article in PC Magazine pointed out that European Firefox users have contributed the most to Firefox 4's download share, accounting for 38.6 million downloads.
But the PCMag article also showed that Firefox has yet to dethrone Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) from the top post, at least for this week.
Statcounter's global stats as of this week showed that IE 8 accounts for 30.51 percent of browser use, followed by Firefox 3.6 with 18.44 percent and Google's Chrome 10 with 16.06 percent.
Other browsers in terms of percentage for this week include:
- Firefox 4: 7.82 percent
- IE 7: 7.62 percent
- IE 6: 4.49 percent
- Safari 5: 3.84 percent
- IE 9: 2.56 percent
- Firefox 3.5: 1.99 percent
