At least three quakes rocked the Surigao area in Mindanao Monday, two of them were felt as far as Leyte in Eastern Visayas.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said one of the quakes occurred before dawn while the two others were recorded shortly after noon.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the most powerful of the three quakes, measuring magnitude 4.8, was recorded at 4:04 a.m.
Phivolcs traced its epicenter to 67 kilometers (km) northeast of Surigao City.
The quake was felt at Intensity III (weak) in Mainit, Surigao del Norte: and in Guiuan, Samar in Eastern Visayas.
It was felt at Intensity II (slightly felt) in Surigao City; and in Libagun, Southern Leyte.
A second quake measuring magnitude 4.5 was recorded at 12:01 p.m., with the epicenter at 17 km northwest of Surigao City.
The second quake was felt at:
Intensity IV (moderately strong): Surigao City;
Intensity III (weak): St. Bernard, Hinunangan, Sogod, Southern Leyte; and Abuyog, Leyte; and
Intensity II (slightly felt): Mainit, Surigao del Norte; and Tacloban, Leyte.
The third quake measuring magnitude 3.7 was recorded at 12:31 p.m., with the epicenter at 17 km northwest of Surigao City.
The quake was felt at Intensity III in Surigao City; and Intensity I in Mainit, Surigao del Norte.
No damage or aftershock was expected from the three quakes, Phivolcs said.
