MANILA, Philippines - After being rumored to be executed in China for drug trafficking, actress Beth Tamayo became the country's fastest rising newsmaker last week, according to Google Philippines.
Data gathered by the local unit of the Internet search giant from April 8 to 14 showed that Tamayo was the most searched personality in the Philippines after rumors spread that she and drug courier Elizabeth Batain are the same person.
Batain's face was never shown in the media, not even before she and 2 other Filipino drug couriers were executed in China last March 30.
In a message sent to director Dante Nico Garcia, Tamayo made it clear that she is very much alive, adding that she has never even been to China.
She is currently in the United States and is working for a private firm.
Other top newsmakers of Google Philippines last week include controversial personalities such as Willie Revillame, who announced that he will take a 2-week leave from TV5's "Willing Willie" starting April 11, and blogger Tricia Gosingtian, who was quoted as saying that the Philippines is "not that fashion-forward."
International singing sensation Charice also made it to the list as netizens talked about her latest single, "Before It Explodes," which is reportedly produced by Fil-Am performing artist Bruno Mars.
