At least two people suffered minor injuries after a fire razed at least 50 houses in a residential area in the Cubao district in Quezon City on Friday.

In an interview over radio dzBB, Metro Manila fire marshal Chief Superintendent Santiago Laguna said "Mayroong dalawang minor injuries at mayroong isang matanda na inilabas pero hindi siya injured, ito ay cancer patient, inilikas lang po ito (At least two people suffered minor injuries while an elderly cancer patient was evacuated).

Laguna said at least 50 houses were affected in the fire, which started at 15th Street in Socorro village in Cubao.

"Inaalam pa natin ano ang cause ng apoy (We are still determining what
caused the fire)," he said.

Citing initial findings, he said the fire started at the house of one Mrs. Soson, which was occupied by one Ivan Clemente.

He said firefighters had a hard time getting to the site because of the narrow passageways.

A separate report by dzBB's Allan Gatus said the fire had reached Task Force
Alpha as of 10:30 a.m., and spread quickly as the houses were made of light
materials.

The residents tried to save their belongings as the fire raged.
