MANILA, Philippines — Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) now boasts of a comprehensive in-house design team, having received from Lufthansa Technik AG (LHT) the certification and qualification for its newly authorized Compliance Verification Engineers (CVE).
LTP said this development makes the company the first authorized design organization among the LHT subsidiaries outside Germany.
“Having an in-house design team spells advantages for LTP customers who would benefit from swifter approval process that results to reduced turnaround time for aircraft and minimized costs for minor repair designs,” said Rene Zaragoza, LTP vice president for Technical Services.
Two years ago, LTP became the first subsidiary to receive an EASA 21 extension from LHT.
The extension meant that LTP could develop minor repairs or alterations without the needed coordination with original equipment manufacturers.
LTP design engineers who were trained and certified to make recommendations and develop change, repair approval sheets (CRAS) would send the CRAS to LHT CVEs for verification, and then certification.
With the help of LTP’s in-house Compliance Verification Engineers, LTP is now authorized to execute the second step in the design process. After this, final certification of the CRAS is sent to LHT.
The EASA gave the approval to LTP’s new Compliance Verification Engineers after a successful audit in the Manila facility.
The company last week broke ground for the construction of a $30-million hangar at its headquarters at the MacroAsia special economic zone in Pasay City to provide repair and maintenance services to the world’s largest and most technically advanced commercial plane the Airbus A380.
The facility is slated for completion in January 2012 to become part of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
