Understanding Justin Beiber: The snubbing incident involving Justin Bieber and an airport staff at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport recently strikes a familiar chord to Marian Rivera.

Often reported and pictured as a villain in similar personal encounters with fans in the past, the GMA contract artist says she can only sympathize with the 17-year-old international pop sensation.

“People should understand that artists also get sick, he wasn’t feeling well that time,” she told the Bulletin during a recent interview.

Several times in the past, Marian, who says she isn’t exactly a fan of Bieber’s, has been the subject of similar stories. It seems they are way behind her now as the young Caviteña actress, known for her classic beauty, looks like she has improved her PR tremendously.

Marian has been doing the rounds of media interviews and promotional runs to drum up interest in her new teleserye, “Amaya,” which opens on May 30. The series is described as an epic-serye, meaning to say, it is set against a historical period in Philippine history.

Amaya in Davao: Part of “Amaya’s” nationwide promotionals is a free show in Davao City’s SM City, where Marian Rivera caused a commotion May 14.

The “Amaya” star was joined on the show by other GMA talents like La Diva, Sef Cadayona and Rochelle Pangilinan. Rochelle, incidentally, gets her biggest break as a primetime star playing chief contravida to Marian’s lead character in “Amaya.”

As the lead character Amaya, Marian starts out as a noble princess, then a slave, and finally a warrior. She says she trained in arnis and wushu for the part.

The teleserye, said to be the network’s most expensive production in years, also stars Sid Lucero and newcomer Mikael Daez as Amaya’s leading men.

TV NEWS: Saturday mornings will be info-taining beginning today, May 21, 8:45 a.m., as GMA airs the newest children’s show “Sabadabadog.”

“Sabadabadog” is a 30-minute educational program designed for Filipino pre-schoolers, 3 to 6 years old. The program aims to provide entertaining, age-appropriate, culturally-relevant songs, stories, dances, animation, mascot segments, learning segments, short features, music videos and other formats that can help in the holistic development of children.

Led by veteran children’s program host Tonipet Gaba, “Sabadabadog” also introduces four new mascots – Don Kahon, Mei-Mei, Bebe Garu and Sabadabadog.

A production of the GMA Public Affairs group, “Sabadabadog” is from the same creative and production team that created the long-running and award-winning children’s program “Art Angel.”

General Santos City is turning out to be the new nesting ground of popular celebrities. The hometown of Manny Pacquiao, Gerald Anderson, and Melai Cantiveros snatched the limelight anew on May 14 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo when its homegrown dance troupe, True Colors, emerged as grand champion in the All-Star Barangayan finals on the mid-morning show, “Showtime.” The group won 2 million pesos, half of which will go to their barangay.
