MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao’s kin looked to have been given their own grand welcome upon their arrival in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 3 (US time) to watch the Filipino superstar’s fight with Shane Mosley on May 7.
According to an ABS-CBN News report, the boxing champ’s father, Rosalio, and sister, Isidra, as well as other VIPs who support Manny, were picked up at the airport’s arrival area by luxurious vehicles (which include a Rolls Royce) with designated chauffeurs that took the guests to their hotels.
In an interview, Isidra enthused, “Handang-handa na siya (Manny)… Masaya ‘yun ['pag nagkita kami mamaya].”
Manny's family arrived together with Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson, a close friend and avid supporter of the pound-for-pound king, added the ABS-CBN News report.
Gov. Chavit related that he will bet in the fight, but “konti lang.”
Back in the Philippines, preparations in the Pacquiao residence in Biñan, Laguna are underway. As reported by GMA-7’s “24 Oras” on May 4, the house is “opened” every year for Manny’s neighbors who wish to watch his fights there.
One of Manny’s house helpers, Analyn Candan, told “24 Oras:” “Magpapakain kami. Nitong laban [na ito] mag-lechon kami.”
Manny’s mother, Dionisia, meanwhile, is busy preparing for another occasion: her grand birthday celebration in General Santos City on May 15, as Isidra related to ABS-CBN News.
Mommy D was present in Manny’s match with Antonio Margarito last year. However, she opted not to watch her son at the ringside this time after she fainted during one of the rounds.
For her birthday, Dionisia wishes Manny would give her the P1 million-peso Hermes bag that she fancies. In her interview with ABS-CBN News, Mommy D related to have seen the luxury bag for the first time in the US last November.
The boxer-congressman’s daughter, Princess, meanwhile, wants a “baby guinea pig” as “pasalubong” from her dad when he comes home from his fight.
But that’s not all. She also told “24 Oras” on Wednesday that, “I like a kitten and I like to take care of her. [And] I want a pink iPod.“
