Sarah Geronimo defends Mommy Divine

MANILA, Philippines – Mother's Day turns all our attention to the most important woman in our lives and it isn't any different for celebrities. Aware that her mom, Divine, has been subjected to nasty comments because of her supposed over-protectiveness, singer-actress Sarah Geronimo naturally comes to her defense.

“Ewan ko bakit gano’n ang ano nila kay mommy. Siguro dahil ‘yung pagiging strict niya, kasi hindi mo na ‘yan masyadong makikita ngayon sa mundo ng showbiz lalo na sa mga ka-edad ko. Parang siya ‘yung kakaiba. Ipaglalaban niya ako kung ano ang makabubuti para sa akin kahit na masabihan siya ng mga hindi magaganda. Nagsa-sacrifice siya para sa amin,” she told "Showbiz News Ngayon," May 6.

Her mom has been called many names in the past, all because she would step in whenever she feels her daughter needs her support and protection. Despite the many issues seemingly raised against her, Mommy Divine remains unshaken, doing everything she can to keep her daughter focused on her career.

Sarah acknowledges that she owes everything – her trials and successes – to mommy Divine, who has always been there to help her realize her dreams.
“Alam ko po at ramdam ko ‘yan everyday. Una sa lahat hindi naman magkakaroon ng Sarah Geronimo kundi dahil kay Divine Geronimo, ‘di ba? Kumbaga, ang credit talaga ibibigay ko sa mga magulang ko po... kung paano ako ngayon,” she said.

She admits that not everything between her and her mom is a bed of roses---they, too, have had arguments in the past. But does not change anything. “Hindi naman po ako ‘yung anak na hindi nagkakamali at may mga pagkakataon na hindi kami nagkakaintidihan pero masasabi ko naman ho na mahal ko ang mga magulang ko.”

After going through a lot of pains in her personal life last year, Sarah now
knows how to better handle matters of the heart. “Mas vina-value ko na po ‘yung opinion ng mga magulang ko, ni mommy. Kung ang isang bagay ay hindi para sa iyo, ‘wag mong ipilit,” she said, likening this situation to her musical career.

“Parang sa pagkanta lang ‘yan,” she said. “Kung hindi ka naman talaga doon sa side sanay sa biritan, ‘wag mong iipilit. Kumbaga, dapat may sarili kang
identity. ‘Wag mong ilagay ang sarili mo sa iba kasi never kang magiging masaya kapag ikino-compare mo ang sarili mo sa iba."
