Toni Gonzaga on ‘no makeup, no interview’ issue: ‘Hindi naman ako nag-inarte’

MANILA, Philippines – TV host, singer and actress Toni Gonzaga refuted allegations that she refused to be interviewed on camera recently because she had no makeup on.

Talk has it that Toni turned down the request of the staff of “The Buzz” who traveled all the way to Subic just to get her message for the birthday VTR for one of her co-hosts on the show, Charlene Gonzales.


In an interview with DZMM’s “Showbiz Mismo” last May 6 (which was later reported by ABS-CBN News), Toni explained that she had just come from a team-building and felt that she did not look presentable enough for an on-cam interview.

“Nakaipit na [ang buhok] ako. Galing kaming Lingayen. Sabi ko hindi naman siguro maganda kung babati ako kay Ate Charlene dahil ganoon ang itsura ko. Pero hindi naman dahil wala akong make-up,” Toni said.

She recalled having taken a camera test but, “hindi talaga maganda [ang itsura ko] kasi puro eyebags na.”

In another interview with PEP, Toni related that she spoke with the executive producer of “The Buzz,” Nancy Yabut about her concern.

"Hindi naman ako nag-inarte… [Kaso] hindi naman ako pinanganak na maganda! Kailangan kong mag-effort din naman. So, tinawag ko kay Ms. Nancy. Nagpaalam naman ako.


"Kung hindi ako pinayagan na hindi lalabas, eh, lalabas ako. May go signal ako, eh,” she said.

Toni also apologized to the staff of “The Buzz,” stated the same ABS-CBN News report.

The multimedia star appealed to the issue perpetrators, “Huwag na lang nating gawan ng isyu.”

“Mas maraming mabibigat na isyu na dapat harapin. Wala namang kasilbi-silbi ang isyung ‘yun,” she added in her PEP interview.


Toni’s younger sister, Alex Gonzaga, also stood up for her “ate” in light of the brouhaha.

“The whole time… buong gap kausap naman [nila] siya sa phone patch,” said Alex during the May 9 episode of “Juicy Express.”

She maintained that Toni is not the type who refuses to be interviewed just because she’s not wearing any makeup.

“'Di ba may mga interviews tayo sa ‘Juicy’ na wala [siyang makeup],” said she.
