Following the killing of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, the United Kingdom has issued a global travel advice urging British nationals to remain vigilant.

The British Embassy in Manila also advised its nationals in the Philippines to monitor the media for developments on the matter.

"We advise British nationals overseas to monitor the media carefully for local reactions, remain vigilant, exercise caution in all public places and avoid demonstrations, large crowds of people and public events," it said in its advisory.

It noted the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office had already urged British nationals overseas "to be vigilant and monitor the media."

On Monday, the United States announced the death of bin Laden in a US-led operation in Pakistan.

"This may lead to an increase in violence and terrorist activity," the British Embassy said.

It added the UK Foreign Secretary had asked all UK Embassies and High Commissions overseas "to review their security."
