Magnitude-5.3 quake hits Sultan Kudarat

A magnitude-5.3 quake rocked the Sultan Kudarat area in Mindanao before dawn Saturday, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was tectonic in origin, and was recorded at 1:23 a.m.

It said the epicenter was 108 km southwest of Isulan in Sultan Kudarat.

However, it did not immediately mention specific areas where the quake was felt.

Phivolcs said no damage or aftershock was expected from the quake.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey said the quake was recorded in the Moro Gulf area.

It said the epicenter was 101 km southwest of Cotabato; 132 km south of Pagadian; 166 km east of Zamboanga; or 926 km south-southeast of Manila.
