At least three exhibits commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of national hero Jose Rizal have been extended and will be open on June 19 and 20, following orders from Malacañang.
Exhibits at the National Library, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Central Post Office will be open on Sunday and Monday, which the Palace declared as a special non-working holiday.
Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. ordered the extension “to allow the public to commemorate Rizal’s patriotic deeds and sacrifices for the country and for the country to rekindle their admiration and respect for him."
He did not say, however, until when the exhibits would be extended.
“The exhibits were put up to spur reflection on Rizal; it’s only fitting that they remain open on the holiday that was declared to allow our people time to reflect and pay tribute to him. We hope the public will take this opportunity to revisit the life and works of our national hero," presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said.
The exhibit in the National Library, which features the original manuscripts of Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere" and “El Filibusterismo," was scheduled to run from June 14 to 18, while the Rizal@150 Photo Exhibit was to run from May 23 to June 30.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ “Rizal in our Midst: A Homage to Greatness" is currently open for viewing while the Rizaliana Collection of Stamps is currently being displayed at the Central Post Office.
