MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday that it expects more rains until Friday.
PAGASA weather forecaster Jori Loyz said that the rainshower is brought about by the low-pressure area spotted off Southern Luzon Wednesday morning.
Weathermen said that the LPA was estimated 40 kilometers east of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro embedded along the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
PAGASA said that moderate to strong winds blowing from Southwest and Southeast will prevail over Southern Luzon with moderate to rough seas.
But Loyz said that the LPA will less likely develop into a storm as it approaches the country. “There is a chance of it being a storm when it hits South China Sea because of the water vapor available in sea surface,” he said.
PAGASA forecast that Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms
It also warned that Southern Luzon will have cloudy skies with widespread rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
Also, the weather disturbance that affected most parts of the country Wednesday caused the cancellation of 27 domestic and international flights at the country's premiere airport.
As of noon Wednesday, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport's Media Affairs Office recorded 27 cancelled flights between Manila and areas affected by the low pressure area (LPA).
An international flight of Cebu Pacific bound for Peking was cancelled Wednesday morning due to bad weather.
Other flights affected were domestic services of Cebu Pacific, SEAIR, and Air Philippines bound for Naga, Palawan, Cebu, Caticlan, Virac Catanduanes, and Pagadian.
Cebu Pacific flight 5J771 flying from Manila to Pagadian was diverted to Cebu as bad weather in the area prevented the pilot from safely landing at the airport.
