Amid the closure of three Filipino schools in Saudi Arabia, a new institution offering the Philippine educational curriculum has opened in Jeddah, a report said Friday.

The Al-Bozouq International School is located near the Philippine Consulate General in Rehab, Jeddah, the Arab News reported.

“Organized by Filipino community leaders in partnership with multinational patrons, the school will teach the curriculum prescribed by the Department of Education in the Philippines, with the approval of the Saudi Ministry of Education," it said.

The report quoted the school’s managers as saying Al-Bozouq is instituting e-learning with the cooperation of computer professionals.

“Teachers, students, and parents will be able to access the school network for lessons, assignments, grades, and other related academic materials," it added.

Nazruddin Dianalan, an engineer and chairman of the governing board, said the school will be headed by Principal Norman Abdulrahman, who has a doctorate in educational management.

Other co-founders of the school include Jauhari Usman, former chairman of the umbrella organization Kasapi Congress; entrepreneur Rizaldy Javing; community leader Abdulhadi Bougart de Leon; and media person Franklin Resma.

Dianalan said the new school is accepting students from pre-elementary to high school, as well as the university preparatory level.

While Al-Bozouq mainly caters to Filipinos, other nationalities can also be admitted provided they secure the necessary permit from the Education Ministry and undergo equivalency evaluation by the school.

The Arab News report said Al-Bozouq is the fourth school offering the Philippine curriculum.

Last year, there were seven such Filipino schools, but Saudi ministry officials ordered the closure of three of the schools for different reasons.
