MANILA, Philippines- Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup will be among the 88 contestants who will compete in the 2011 Miss Universe beauty pageant to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Sept. 12, 2011, as the most prestigious contest celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.
Supsup, 25, of General Santos City was crowned by Ma. Venus Raj, who won 4th runner-up in the Miss Universe contest held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA last August. She graduated magna cum laude at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, Quezon City. Later, she topped the board exams for architects.
The candidates are expected to arrive in Brazil from August 21 to 23, 2011. On August 24, 2011, a welcome event will be held for the delegates.
Other events include Kandy Wrappers Pool Party at Hilton Sao Paulo Morumbi, Aug. 26; National Gift Auction, also at the same hotel, Aug. 29; National Costume Show, same hotel, Sept. 3; Lux Fashion Show, Morumbi Shopping Mall, Sept. 6; Presentation Show at Credicard Hall, Sept. 8; Miss Universe title holders reunion, Sept. 10; and dress rehearsals, live telecast of the pageant, and coronation ball, Sept. 12.
Countries who withdrew in this year’s contest are Norway and Zambia. Returning countries are Cayman Island, Chile, Estonia, Montenegro, Portugal, St. Lucia, Turks and Caicos and Vietnam.
One of the highlights of this year’s beauty contest is the reunion of the titleholders.
Last July 27, 2011, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) headed by real property developer billionaire Donald Trump joined a photo session with some of the winners and semi-finalists of the contest in recent years. It was shot by pageant photographer Fadil Berusha in New York City.
Among those who attended the photo shoot were Flaviana Matata, of Tanzania; Chloe Martaud, of France; Rosanna Purcell, of Ireland; Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza, of Venezuela; Angela Martini, of Albania; Miss Universe 2008 Riyo Mori, of Japan; Miss Universe 2003 Amelia Vega, of the Dominican Republic; Crystle Stewart, of USA; Marigona Dragusha, and Zana Krasnigi, of Kosovo.
