A potential cyclone off Palawan intensified into an active low-pressure area (ALPA) early Sunday, even as state weather forecasters said the weather in parts of the country, including Metro Manila, may improve starting Monday.
Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Buddy Javier said Sunday morning the ALPA is on its way out of Philippine territory.
“Bukas kasi papalabas na rin itong ALPA, medyo masasabi nating mag-i-improve na ang weather bukas," Javier said in an interview on dzBB radio.
However, he said the public may have to contend with rainy weather on Sunday, due to the ALPA.
If the ALPA intensified into a cyclone before exiting Philippine territory, it would be codenamed “Sendong.” PAGASA expects only one cyclone in Philippine territory this month.
PAGASA’s 5 a.m. bulletin said the ALPA was estimated at 420 km west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan as of 2 a.m.
“Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rain over the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon, which may trigger flash floods and landslides,” it said.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, it said.
PAGASA’s extended weather forecast indicated there will be partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in Metro Manila from Monday to Thursday.
The forecast temperature range in Metro Manila in those days was between22 and 32 degrees Celsius, with the weather expected to be warm on Thursday at 24 to 32 degrees.
