DIPOLOG CITY – A three-day in-service training for elementary school Science teachers in the province of Zamboanga del Norte was conducted here recently to adequately prepare the mentors at the start of the new School Year.


Provincial schools superintendent Sonny Ray Amit said the training specifically sought to upgrade their instructional skills on Science, a major learning area. Among the topics discussed during the training, Amit said, include Alternative Assessment Strategies for the Sciences, Research for Science Teachers, Mathematics for Science Tutors, and Selected Topics in Biology. G.S.I.S. SCHOLARSHIP

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) – The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is reminding members that the deadline for the filing of application for the enhanced GSIS Scholarship Program is on June 30. Ma. Luz Ilano-Briones, GSIS Cagayan de Oro branch manager, said the GSIS has 200 college scholarship grants for the School Year 2012-2013 to help the dependents of its less privileged members earn a college degree from schools that provide quality education. She said all regular GSIS members with premium payments for the last six months and currently employed in government with a salary grade of 24 or below are eligible to nominate a scholar.

PHILHEALTH NURSES

PAGADIAN CITY – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has scheduled the initial recruitment of some 200 registered nurses for the six regions of Mindanao this month. A report received here recently from PhilHealth president Eduardo Banzon said the previously trained new nurses, to be paid P15,356 a month, will serve as Customer Assistance, Relations, and Empowerment Staff (CARES) in accredited hospitals in the region. Meanwhile, Zamboanga City’s purchase and donation of a P40 million Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan machine to the Zamboanga City Medical Center has been included in the city’s 2013 supplemental budget. BANANA FESTIVAL

COTABATO CITY (PIA) – The first banana harvest festival was held in Ampatuan, Maguindanao, recently. The Department of Agriculture (DA) initiated the festival, through the High Value Crops Development Program, one of the banner programs of the agriculture department in encouraging farmers to engage in the production of high yielding variety of crops such as mango, durian, coconut, and banana as a source of livelihood. The festival was held at the 35-hectare ‘lakatan’ plantation of the EKA Salam Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative at Sitio Sabaduan in Barangay Kauran, Ampatuan town.

LINE AGENCIES

MARAWI CITY (PIA) – National line agencies Lanao del Sur will be showcasing their respective programs and projects to the public this coming July 1. Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. slated July 1 as Line Agencies Day in the entire province to give recognition to the valuable contributions of line agencies in promoting peace and development in the area. Provincial chief-of-staff Aminoden Macalandap said the line agencies will be given the opportunity to feature their programs, projects, and services in a booth exhibit and display at the designated area within the New Capitol Complex from June 26 to July 3.
