MANILA, Philippines – After figuring in nasty talk that painted her in negative light, former actress and politician Cita Astals declares she is “okay” now.
“I’m happier,” she said in an exclusive interview on “Paparazzi,” May 15.
Astals admitted having a bout with “depression,” but denied losing her marbles in the process as alleged in media.
“Until now I’m still suffering from this stigma and ang hirap kasi, you don’t know how to counter it.”
She explained how her “problem” started, making mention of her loss in the 2007 national elections as among contributing factors.
“Tumakbo ako as vice mayor, natalo ako ni Isko [Moreno],” she said. “That was [what caused] my first depression.”
Adding to her woes Astals said, was not being paid for certain “collectibles” that she was expecting. She didn't elaborate on these, however, save to say the matter really "did her in" as she couldn’t get a job at that point.
“Dahil kung hindi ako overqualified eh hindi ako qualified at all,” she explained.
This resulted in her being more miserable, especially as she eventually failed to pay the maintenance of her house almost to the point where it was being foreclosed.
Astals said she didn’t ask for help from friends in show business and in politics simply because, "I was worried baka pati sila madamay.”
Eventually, one of her sisters, upon learning of her predicament through various news sites, had her sent to a hospital where she was given medicine to alleviate her depression.
Now, Astals is eager to work again.
“I’m hoping na sana makabalik na ako sa showbiz,” she intimated.
“Bahala na kayong maghusga kung ano ang akala nyo sa akin, pero, pagbigyan na ninyo ako at hindi naman akong masamang tao.”
