MANILA, Philippines - Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano takes care of her husband’s health, Gary Valenciano, who has diabetes. She looks after him and ensures he takes his medications.
Karen Davila asked her how long would she wants Gary to stay in showbiz. She replied, “for as long as God can use him, I think it can be forever."
Pangilinan said she gathered knowledge on the disease first.
Valenciano is a diabetic and when he had a major attack, she said she realized it’s not the same disease that her grandmother had.
She started to learn about it, buying books on diabetes, researching, and knowing about the medications.
“Knowledge is power," she said. “So when you know the disease when he almost died, I didn’t just pray. I knew what to do. I gave him first aid, put glucose in his mouth, he was like dead and stiff but I know what to do. Optimum health is balance of prayer, knowing the medications, a lot of supplements," she added.
They have been married for about 27 years. She also sometimes acts as his mother.
“A man looks in his woman in everything that he needs. Sometimes Gary’s mom was on his way in the states, so sometimes he needs a little bit of that, a little bit of a mother, definitely a lover, a friend, somebody who can run to. That’s what I want to be for Gary," she said.
“A woman must be everything to her man but must learn to balance everything,” she added.
She and her husband are having misunderstanding sometimes. She said what they do is to walk away, cool down, and pray.
She said she chooses local artists to manage. “They have to be believers in God, in the principles of Jesus Christ. I can’t manage somebody who doesn’t look at the same faith and values because that’s what strives me."
She also said that she is not against managing gay artists because God also loves gays.
She told Davila her stand on the RH Bill issue, “I don’t believe that there’s anything wrong in contraceptives because there are some who do it for medical reasons and I don’t believe at all in abortion. I’m totally against that.”
