Jake meets obsessed fan at airport

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Jake Cuenca has finally come face-to-face with his 51-year-old obsessed female fan, who left her family in Iloilo just to meet the young actor.

Cuenca, 23, went to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on May 13 to meet Elizabeth Aquino-Suarez.

He said that while he was on his way to the airport, he was praying for strength so that he could convince his fan to go back to her family.

“Hiningi ko na, ‘Lord bigyan ninyo ako ng lakas na makumbinsi ang taong ito na umuwi kasi kailangan siya ng pamilya niya,’” he told “The Buzz.”

Suarez had been camping out at the NAIA for days to wait for Cuenca, who she considers as her “soul mate.” She stubbornly refused to leave the premises despite prodding from airport officials.

Suarez said she would only leave if Cuenca came to fetch her.

The meeting between Suarez and Cuenca went smoothly. Footage of their meeting showed the 2 talking at the Media Affairs Division office at NAIA Terminal 1.

Cuenca reportedly urged her to go back to Iloilo and iron things out with her family. He also gave her a jacket.

When interviewed after the meeting, Suarez said: “Siyempre parang nabunutan ng tinik… Hindi natatanggal sa isipin ko ‘yong the way he smiled at me.”

She also promised to fly home to Iloilo as what Cuenca wanted. “Siyempre, uuwi na ako. Kung ano ‘yong sinabi niya, sundin ko na lang.”

Flattering

Cuenca admitted that it was the first time that he encountered such fan.

“It was flattering na may tumatangkilik sa iyo na ganyan ka-intense. It’s flattering pero siyempre I was worried. Seven days siya doon,” he said.

The actor admitted that he “wanted to go there right away” when he first heard the news. “I talked to my handler. Kailangan mas organized daw kasi hindi namin kilala ‘yong kikitain namin.”

During the meeting, he gave Suarez his mailing address so that they can both write to each other, he said.

Suarez used to send text messages to Cuenca through KText, a service that allows the fan to get in touch with their idols through their cellphones. “Ang KText, in-explain ko kay Beth, na ang text for general public… [It’s] for everyone,” he said.

He said “it was my pleasure” to have finally met Suarez.

“Hindi kita makakalimutan. Tulad ng sabi ko sulatan mo lang ako at susulatan din kita,” Cuenca said.
