A low-pressure area off Mindanao has dissipated but rain may still be expected over Visayas and Mindanao, state weather forecasters said Saturday.
PAGASA, in its weather advisory issued at 10:30 a.m., said the rain may come from the inter-tropical convergence zone.
"The (LPA) east of Mindanao has dissipated. However, light to moderate rain is still expected in Visayas and Mindanao due to the (ITCZ)," it said.
Earlier Saturday, PAGASA said the ITCZ will mainly affect the Visayas and Mindanao, but Metro Manila and parts of Luzon may expect afternoon and evening rain.
PAGASA forecaster Jun Galang said Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon may experience good weather but may have thunderstorms and rain showers in the afternoon.
The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration describes the ITCZ as the region that circles the Earth, near the equator, where the trade winds of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres come together.
Seasonal shifts in the location of the ITCZ may affect rainfall in many equatorial nations, resulting in the wet and dry seasons of the tropics rather than the cold and warm seasons of higher latitudes.
Galang earlier said the ITCZ can be considered a breeding ground of low-pressure areas that may form into cyclones.
