MANILA, Philippines – Looks like Manny Pacquiao has a long way to go before retirement.
This was declared by Top Rank promotions chief Bob Arum who had chatted with the Fighter of the Decade last December.
"[He won't retire] before 2013. He told me that on the day of his (32nd) birthday in the Philippines," the boxing promoter said in a Boxingscene.com report.
Arum specified that the 8-division world champ Pacquiao still wants to extend his boxing career with at least 2 fights a year.
"Between 2011, 2012 and 2013, he plans to have 6 fights," he said.
Pacquiao has been asked to hang up the gloves by his mother, Dionesia, and a sports analyst, after defeating Mexican Antonio Margarito in November. In the feat, he had bagged the World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight crown, his 8th world title.
However, contrary to the suggestions, Pacquiao signed up for another boxing match against the former World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight "Sugar" Shane Mosley.
The 2 pugilists are now set to trade punches on May 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After the fight with Mosley, the Pacman is expected to return in September or October for a second boxing match.
'Where is Mayweather?
Arum was also asked regarding the much-wanted fight between Pacquiao and the undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
He said he, too, is eager for a fight but considering Mayweather's recent controversies, the supposed "Fight of the Century" is again put to question.
"Please, does anyone know where he is or where to find Floyd Mayweather Jr.?" he said, adding he recently attempted to contact the boxer. He said he got ignored.
Earlier, Pacquiao has said he will have to retire in boxing as soon as he gets worn out. This, he continued, even if he never faces Mayweather in the near future.
“Para sa akin, ang na-achieve ko sa boxing ay masaya na ako, satisfied na ako (For me, I’ve already achieve everything in boxing. I’m happy and satisfied)," he had said.
