MANILA, Philippines — In a span of only 45 days, from Jan. 4 to Feb. 17, 2011 the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has already yielded a total of P424,948,704.80 in on-line lottery prizes, or an average of P9,443,304.55 a day.
This developed as a 44-year-old married seaman from Marikina City, one of the two winners of Grand Lotto's P87,752,689.20 pot in the draw on Wednesday, promptly came the next day to claim his share of P43,876,344.60 from the PCSO at the Secretariat Building of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
Manuel "Manny" C. Garcia, PCSO spokesman, said the seaman spent R20 on a standard bet for the winning numbers 18-20-07-05-10-12.
In contrast, Garcia said as of press time Friday, the first jackpot winner in 2011 on Jan. 4 of Super Lotto's R61.31 million pot has not yet come forward.
"I hope the winner still has the ticket. The winner should claim it before the numbers printed on thermal paper fades. No ticket, no prize," said Garcia, manager of Publicity and Public Relations Department (PCSO-PPRD).
Lotto winners have a year to claim their winnings, he added, after which unclaimed prizes are forfeited and reverted back to PCSO's Charity Fund.
Garcia said on Feb. 17, a lone bettor in Luzon won P16 million in the Super Lotto draw, the 18th lottery aficionado this year to join the exclusive millionaires' club.
