Amid the ongoing Holy Week exodus, at least three people were hurt while two of four Metro Manila-bound lanes were closed following a freak accident along the South Luzon Expressway Tuesday.

SLEX spokesperson Alma Tuazon said the incident occurred about 9:30 a.m., between San Pedro (Laguna) and Carmona (Cavite).

"May tatlong may minor injuries, dinala sa clinic (Three people sustained minor injuries and were brought to a clinic for treatment)," Tuazon said in an interview on dzBB radio.

An initial investigation showed an Elf-type vehicle delivering ice cream went out of control and hit the enbankment.

Two of the four lanes in the area were closed while clearing operations were conducted.

Meanwhile, Tuazon noted an increase in the number of vehicles heading out of Metro Manila and towards provinces in Southern Luzon.

"Bahagyang dumami na. Mula April 9 napansin namin umaakyat ang volume ng traffic (We have noted an increase in the volume of traffic at SLEX since April 9)," she said.

But she said traffic remains manageable at the SLEX, even as she said the SLEX expects high vehicle volume until at least Maundy Thursday.
