MANILA, Philippines -- Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse M. Robredo has urged the public to send a text message to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in case of fire incidents or any other emergency cases in Metro Manila.
The TXTFire Philippine Foundation Inc., headed by its President Gerie Chua, has 228,000 members nationwide and is attended to by more than 4,200 volunteer groups. Upon texting information about a fire in progress and its exact location to cell phone number 0918-6888888, the BFP assured the sender that there would be a prompt response from either the BFP or other private fire volunteer groups.
All messages, alerts, advisories and other information relative to the occurrence of fire, calamities and emergency situations generated by TXTFire facilities will immediately be relayed to BFP-NCR and other fire volunteer groups who will quickly proceed to the site to respond to the incident. “This system will prove to be very useful especially with the onset of summer and the Lenten season when everybody must be extra cautious as most of the fires usually occur during this time of the year,” said Robredo.
The BFP and volunteer fire groups have also agreed to keep an open radio communication line between them to facilitate quick access on fire alerts to enable them to make a speedy response on any given fire or other emergency incidents.
