MANILA, Philippines – Iza Calzado feels honored that Regine Velasquez chose her as the latter’s replacement in GMA-7’s primetime series, “I Heart You Pare.”
“Yes, I will be replacing Ate Regine in I Heart You Pare. So honored and grateful to Ate Reg for choosing me :) I start taping this Saturday,” the actress tweeted on April 7.
The Songbird, who plays a woman posing as a drag queen, has to leave the show upon doctor’s advice to rest following the “severe migraine attacks” she has suffered possibly due to exhaustion from taping, as GMA Entertainment Television said in a statement issued Thursday.
“Pinasiyahan ng Network na ibigay kay Regine ang nararapat na pahinga para sa kanyang agarang paggaling,” read a part of the statement.
The Kapuso network believes Iza is a worthy replacement for Regine. She will take over the latter’s role starting April 11, Monday.
"Puno ang tiwala ng Kapuso Network sa kakayahan ni Iza na ipagpatuloy at gampanan ang karakter na iiwanan ni Regine at lubos ang pasasalamat ng management sa buong pusong pagtanggap niya dito,” GMA-7 stated.
Iza has played a role similar to Regine’s Tonette/Tonya. In the mini-series “SRO Cinemaserye Presents: Rowena Joy,” Iza portrayed a transgender.
It was not mentioned in GMA’s statement, however, if Regine’s sabbatical also has something to do with her rumored pregnancy. Talks are rife that the singer-actress is five weeks pregnant of her first child with husband Ogie Alcasid, an issue which the power couple has yet to address.
Late last month, Regine reportedly got woozy during an episode of the Sunday variety show, “Party Pilipinas.” Many were quick to connect the incident to the much-anticipated pregnancy. However, updates surfaced that Regine’s dizziness was caused by her supposed excessive belting during a production number.
