MANILA, Philippines – Elton John's "Daniel" paved the way to elimination for Filipino-American singer Thia Megia Thursday night (Friday morning in Manila) in "American Idol".
The 15-year-old crooner was eliminated in the hit show, together with Naima Adedapo after they received the lowest votes in America.
Two contestants got booted out in this episode because the judges used their save power for finalist Casey Abrams last week.
The contender who joined Megia and Adedapo in the bottom 3 was Paul McDonald.
During Wednesday’s episode of the show, the top 11 sang Elton John hits.
Megia performed “Daniel,” a ballad song, which most people found boring.
She has been criticized for always singing slow and sappy songs and not getting out of her comfort zone.
Judge Randy Jackson even said her song choice was “very safe.”
Last week, she drew praises for her out-of-the-box performance, with her rendition of Motown group Martha and the Vandellas’ "Heatwave."
That was the first time that she performed an upbeat song.
Megia may be eliminated now but she has already left a mark in "American Idol"’s history as she is the youngest contestant ever who made it through in the show’s top 13.
